Took a look at the in game help menu and they added some nice touches to the franchise mode. Now you can play like Doug Wilson and send offer sheets to players in the offseason.

And yeah the game seemed just a tad slow, but all the gameplay sliders are locked in for the demo, so that's an easy fix in the retail version. You can see in the settings they have game speed almost all the way down. One new cool thing you can change in settings is the puck size. Put it on authentic and puck shadow to off, and it's pretty awesome. More of a challenge.

I have several small problems with it, but overall I love it. The one big problem I have with game play is that they've pretty much rendered the spin move useless. You basically stop and almost spin in place now. Also, with the default view it seems like in pans down really quick once the offense hits the blue line and you lose your sight of your players there and can't see who you just hit or missed at the blue line.

As can probably be expected I spent most of my time in the demo playing Kipper in net.

I love the new physics. It will change the game for the better and it has a great realistic feel. Checks are better now, pokes are as well even though the stick sweep seems to have gotten worse. 1-timers are easy as hell (from a Dman point perspective) but seem to be a bit weaker. 09 1-timers are like a canned animation and score more. 10 seems to be easier 1 timers no canned but not easy to score.

For all you goalies out there...

The l2+r2 rstick up post hug is faster and more usable. General movement is a bit smoother. Goalie still does the auto-grabs and the Y animation is a bit different but not a big deal. I think overall it will be an improvement.

The desperations feel the same although I can see the rstick Down + R1 maybe being more useful. The new physics apply to the saves and rebounds as well. The L2 slide feels smoother and the rstick l/r manual saves might actually help this year. The r2 post hug feels a bit better but the legs together animation still sucks donkey balls. But need to have humans playing against ya to see if that is completely true.

Dropping in the fly too early does seem to have a bigger impact and may adjust timing. the High view seems to be just a bit closer in but it could be just the position lock.

Sorry I couldnt get more but in the ultimate mode, you cant change the difficulty so you dont see all that many shots.

Well I played Ultimate Team Mode last night and though it was something to do I do not really see myself playing it all that much. It was interesting but having to league match the lines and all that crap, I like BAGM and fiddling with lines but this is too much. And after playing it again I'm almost positive that hip check is going to be exploited to death in online play.

I could give a ****, as long as their are no money goals.

There were some annoying defensive plays in 10 as well, but honestly, playing online and not even seeing real hockey played is annoying. I get sick of crosby and ovechkin brushing off 7 checks and multiple pokechecks, only to score on some BS curve shot. Or defending the just ove rthe blueline curve shot. If they killed money goals I will be a happy camper.

Dunno if there are money goals or not, the Xcrease is hard to work through but they are still there and it looks like they fixed Xcrease goals. The goalie is no longer superhuman but the D stops the pass, now the gets through it is a goal from what I can tell.

TSD you play on 360 or PS3? My and Count Dante are getting a new club going in 11 for 360 was going to ask if you were interested in joining.

PS3. Sorry why do you use that piece of junk 360(just kidding) the only reason i chose ps3 over 360 was for bluray.

Also, the only thing that has bugged me about franchise mode on consoles in general is the friggin wait times on simming through seasons. On the PC, i could sim an entire season in under a minute. It takes around 20-30 mins to sim a season ignoring any pop ups too.

So I have to ask why do you place hockey on a blu-ray player, get a real gaming machine :p. I have both but yeah my PS3 is basically a blu-ray player and I only get PS3 exclusives on well PS3 rest are on the 360.

Yeah I know simming the season takes a bit but I like watching the wins and loses go by and man my Islanders BAGM team is stacked...actually have Toews on the squad (it was an honest trade I gave away my 2nd line center [who was an 87 overall], a top prospect [77 overall with A- potential] and a 3rd round pick), I needed a guy good at faceoffs and Toews came to mind so I made a move for him. But yeah my 4th line has guys with like 80 overalls on it. I have so many prospects waiting in the minors and I'm a damn superstar goalie factory. I have Halak as my netminder but I have a backup that could be a starter, an AHL goalie that is NHL starter ready and the AHL backup is good enough to NHL backup plus a guy that is scratched that can start in the AHL. Most of them I'm going to move at the deadline for picks and prospects since I don't need them all and two of them I'm paying absurd amounts of money to either play in the A or backup.

Im a PC gamer too, and most Xbox exclusives I want, come out for PC too(because its microsoft), so im covered. like mass effect. Although I heard mass effect 2 is coming to ps3 as well.

Did they fix the problem with rookies? i.e. it was too easy in previous games to pick up high potential young talent. Either through the draft or sitting unsigned as UFA's at the start of the season. Seriously the draft was almost pointless because its a guarantee there will be a dozen players 22 or younger with B or over potentials sitting in the UFA pool at the start of the season. I thinkt hey should use a more ambiguous system for rookies, like literally having only the scouting report, and how they are playing.

•Unfortunately there are several bugs, including a strange offseason roster glitch I ran into in franchise mode. After finally winning my first Stanley Cup after decades of trying, I went to my roster screen and noticed that half my team was suddenly listed as playing for Atlanta.

Man am I dense, I looked at that (I didnt realize it was a total joke review yet).

I was like, thats a horrible glitch! Wait a minute, oh yeah.

Well, I think I'm about to go purchase NHL Slapshot for Wii.

IGN rated it 8.0 (Impressive) and GameSpot also rated it 8.0 (Great)... most people say its pretty fun so I'll give it a shot.

It's actually a mixture of both, this is the best hockey game on Wii by far. The graphics are fine, actually pretty good on Wii.

They have Peewee to Pro mode, which is pretty kick ass. I'm a Bantam right now basically kicking the shit out of the whole league, after this season is the CHL draft... then a couple seasons of that and I get drafted, work my way through the minors and make it to the big club. You can play as a goalie (which is pretty darn neat on Wii) or as a player, which I am currently doing now.

It's basically pick up and play, the controls are easy and accurate. I get pretty into it while I'm playing, I'm not gonna lie. My uncle came over today and tried it, and he hates every other NHL game on Wii and he agreed that this is by far the best one and is pretty enjoyable to play.

It's kinda nice not having to press a zillion buttons just to complete a pass, however the drawback to that is you can't really do things at the same speed as you can on the other systems. I like it, might not be for the hardcore gamers but its definitely fun and certainly a step in the right direction, I'll stick with EA every time now.

[quote name="Shredder"]Here's a pretty funny review from Down Goes Brown:

best line from the review

Negotiating long-term deals with free agents is so realistic that the game kept interrupting me with empty threats about voiding contracts I signed while playing NHL 10.

I figured I'd bump this thread and not hijack the general video game thread.

We should make an IHN team for the EASHL and whoop people's asses. Who's in?

If it is for the 360 I'd kinda be interested. I'll be honest though, I'm not exactly enthused with NHL11, Day 1 it was great then steadily got worse. Having played it since the patch. So I would play but not a whole lot.

Yeah, I'd do it for the 360. Maybe if we get enough folks interested and get a decent team together the game will be more fun for you!
