what 8,9 goals against columbus gets you paid? smh

A goal against Columbus is worth as much as a goal against any other team. The team needs to score in order to win and obviously Stalberg helped out big time in games against Columbus. Certain guys just have a teams number.

When talking about other players do we dismiss their goals against the weaker teams? Do we dismiss their empty net goals? Do we dismiss goals when the team is up 5 - 0 and it is "meaningless"? It usually all evens out and gives you a good idea of where a player is at. A goal is a goal. Worth one point and one put up on the board regardless of the other team.

Quality reply, I expected nothing less. Stalberg is a good skater and most of that has to do with his speed. His skating is the reason why he is in the NHL and is easily his greatest asset. He has a lot to work on elsewhere in his game, but as long as his skating continues he will be a quality player in the NHL.

Now that I am not by my phone lets dig into this a bit.

So what you are saying is a goal is a goal correct? So what about your argeument with stamkos and his "inflated" numbers because of St Louis? I mean a goal is a goal right? So you basically want Stamkos stats to be Weighted, but we cant weight the stats of one viktor stallberg for scoring almost 50% of his goals against one of the worst teams in hockey? You cant have it both ways. strawman

Very amazing story you tell. He IS NOT a good skater. Fast doesnt=good!!! You are this coach of little kids, you should know better since you are so smart! Alot of work? Id say so. Hands are below avg, his shot is below avg, skating ability between below and avg, speed above avg. Id say he has a lot to work on.

Where his numbers good for his salary? yes. Is he a quality NHL player? Jury is still out, he will need to show consistency in a repeat year.

Has Brunette signed somewhere yet? anyone?

"strawman" "you are so smart!" "Brunette"

Your posts continue to have useless fluff that add nothing to the conversation. Stick to the debate at hand and stop the childish bull shit. You are a mod around here, right? You talk about wanting to improve the forum and promote conversation, right? Without your childish shit, we could have gone straight to the point and continued a hockey conversation.

The Blackhawks sure needed someone to step up in those games against the Blue Jackets. A win against the Blue Jackets is worth as much as a win against the Red Wings, Canucks, etc. Just like a win in October is worth as much as a win in March. A goal is worth the same and he stepped up in those games. Stalberg had 6 game winning goals for second on the team. I'm not a huge fan of game winning goals but if you are going to dismiss goals against the Blue Jackets and not have them count, I suppose I should bring up that stat to show that his goals were "worthwhile".

Stalberg is a good skater and a lot of it has to do with his speed. Skating ability between average and below? I mean, common. Being a good skater and speed go hand and hand, it may not be everything (it isn't) but when we are talking about the NHL it may be one of the biggest things to consider. His skating (speed) is what makes him a quality NHL player.

tip toeing I see. you contradict yourself. Stop turning this into "you're a mod, and hockey convos" The fact still remains that you took away from stamkos because of St Louis which is "weighting" a stat, but you wont do it with stalberg when nearly 50% of his goals last year came against the CBJ, one of the worst teams. Again its not being "childish" (which is your complaint on a high level of misdirection when I have you caught being a hypocrit) Again, you cant have it both ways.

"childish tactics and stuffz with teh modsz"

I have said that Stamkos is a sniper who needs someone to feed him the puck. I have said that St.Louis is very underrated and helps Stamkos out greatly. Stamkos isn't the type of player who necessarily carries the puck up or creates for himself all the time. His shot is his greatest asset and it is one of the best in the game. I have also said that Stamkos is a top 3 player in the world.

No idea how I am a hypocrite or have contradicted myself. I have never said that a goal isn't a goal. They all count the same. Doesn't matter if it is a tic-tac-toe or the goalie kicks out a rebound and it goes in off the player's face. A smart coach like myself would never think otherwise.

I just hope Bowman either replaces Stalberg with a prospect or else Stalberg gets it all together. I think the first option is more likely, and I hope the Blackhawks don't go deep in the cap to keep or replace Stalberg's production.

What do you mean by "replaces Stalberg with a prospect" ?

I don't think Stalberg is necessarily the type of player that is going to get it all together. His speed got him here and is what will keep him here. He can definitely improve in small areas of the game but he really reminds me of a Grabner type player. His speed will carry him but he will never be all there.

I mean when Stalberg's contract is up, and his coin is too much for the Blackhawks, they'll have to replace him. I would think it'd be cheaper with a prospect, but I don't know jack shit.

I think Stalberg needs to go one of two ways by the trade deadline.

He either needs to be signed or he needs to be traded. Too risky to just let him walk at the end of the year. Stalberg is exactly the type of player that a rebuilding team with an expiring vet (an Iginla, Doan, etc if expiring) would love to trade for and lock up. Stalberg would probably be more prominently featured on a rebuilding team and could go the way of Grabner.

In terms of cost, Stalberg has a ridiculously low cost for his output, I doubt we would see a prospect do the same. Also, the prospect could actually even cost more cash with bonuses, etc that rookies have built in and that cost against the cap.

If you want to see a player with just some ridiculous skill, check out a few of Kovalev's videos on youtube. I believe he did a few for "Warrior" and they are just amazing.

lol wut?

you never said he was a top 3 in the world, not in a debate with me anyway...ive seen top 5/10 (dunno) in the nhl come out of your mouth but not top 3 in the world.

either way, in previous conversations you took away from stamkos because of st louis, that is fact, if you do that its called "weighting" a specific stat and if you are going to do that, that you have to "weight" stalbergs stats. not hard to figure out.

Hartnell's was interesting...

Latest NHL proposal called for NHL contracts to be a max 5 years

Union replies by having Hartnell signed to a 6 year deal.....

But the team had to offer/agree to it. I usually side with the owners in contract negotiations, but I'm with the players this time. Everything the owners wanted in 2004 they got and now they say they can't survive. I can agree about 5 year contracts, yet they continue to give 5+ year contracts. Free agency after 10 years. Seriously?

The players' offer was fair.
