The Lions bolstering their secondary doesn't help Jared Goff play any better against good defenses. Goff is exactly who you would expect him to be.

The Eagles bolstering their secondary doesn't help Jalen Hurts turn the ball over any less. Plus the anchor of their entire offensive line retired.

The reason Nick Wright and Colin Cowherd are bold about the Chicago Bears is because it comes down to the QB and they both know that the NFC doesn't have the QB talent to dethrone the Bears if Caleb Williams is as anticipated.

They're both thinking (and I don't know if they're right) that Caleb Williams will be the best QB in the NFC by the end of the season. If Williams is the best QB in the NFC by the time the divisional games come around the Bears could steamroll into the playoffs.

Yeah predicting the NFC was hard last year because wait for it, it's one of the worst divisions in football and that's why the Lions have looked way better the last two years than they actually are.

You can dig up where I told you the Lions got to the NFC Championship game in the the worst NFC Division in decades if you want.

You could also look up where I said the Lions would get to the Super Bowl last year. But you know I was wrong and Big Game Goff came through in the clutch against the Commanders.

Outside of some of the additions that I don't care for I was optimistic about the big picture for this franchise in 2025 until I saw Nick Wrights prediction.

Has that guy ever been right. I don't watch enough of the mothership to know. I do see his various predictions around d the internet, whether it was the 2024 Bears or the Lakers in 5. He's usually out in left field.

I do expect the Bears to be significantly better. Though I still would like to see them either trade for a DE and sign a HB or trade for a HB and sign a guy like Za'Darius Smith.

I still think that either scenario would help this franchise alot in the now without crippling their ability to build in the future.

I decided to defer to all of the experts that said Caleb was one of one that generational talent. And then two games in it all fell apart.

The rose colored glasses are off I'm looking at this team strictly for what I've seen it to be, not what I hope it can be.

I don't believe in Dexter or Sweat, I think Jarrett is too old Dayo is a scrub Billings is coming back from injury, Edmunds is collecting a paycheck they don't have a CB2 the safeties could be absolute trash.

Turner has a rod in his leg so I suspect his impact to be minimal. Burden will be slowed by his injury, Odunze isn't good enough yet or maybe not at all. DJ Moore doesn't care, Swift could be a complete bust because he's old by RB standards and there's not a single backup running back I'm confident in.

Jackson doesn't have a reputation for being consistently good, Thuney may mail it in the left tackle is below average and who knows on Wright. If you're a total optimist Wright is good, if you're a total realist Wright is average.

Overall the effort to rebuild the defense has likely been a total failure, you can't fix the OL in one year even if Poles hit on everyone and Caleb's accuracy and his Justin Fields tendencies will probably lead to a complete regime change in 3-4 years.

Edit - And just to clarify, your whole point about "admitting Fields holding the team back" is a little silly considering what was added on the offensive side of the ball beyond the QB this offseason.

I'm super excited. I hope CW is our franchise QB for the next decade+. But winning in the NFL is tough and the NFCN looks pretty damn competitive, let alone the rest of the NFC (49ers, Eagles, etc). So just being a little tempered with my expectations.

Fields had some things we'd like to see improve but he didn't have the platform to work them out. Still doesn't make the decision to draft CW a bad one. Quite the opposite until he proves that wrong. Someone that almost all here have faith in, Ben Johnson, seems to believe, so why shouldn't we?

Dalvin Cook and Todd Gurley being pretty recent examples. Gurley is 30 and has been out of the league for 5 years now. Dude was the most dominant RB in the game for a stretch. Cook is 29 and has been irrelevant for 3 years. The wear and tear on their bodies just make it more likely that by their late 20s, their careers are behind them. Main reason they don't really get paid anymore.

My pessimism probably comes from the fact that he had a career low in YPA.

Mixon's numbers have been in decline for a couple years now. Monty isn't a bellcow and has only reached 1k yards twice in his career, so going strong is a bit of a stretch. Not to mention, those two have been suffering injuries more often the last couple of years. Honestly not the best examples to bring up.

Well that and he only averaged 4.2ypc and his fellow back averaged 5.6(?) ypc. Detroit was a much more explosive team with Monty on the bench. They should give him less carries going forward and find another back that can be more productive to go with Gibbs.

Mixon averaged 4.1 YPC in '24 the same he averaged 2019 and 2021 and more than in 2020, 2022, and 2023. In only one year in his career did he average more than 4.1. Perhaps he is in decline but he appeared to ramp it back up last year to hit his career YPC average.
