you are comparing apples and oranges when it comes to the position. carter is an elite player no doubt, while bolland isnt but he plays his role as a 3rd liner. he is what he is. I would love to have carter but look at National Hockey League Salaries and Statistics | NHLnumbers.com and see how much you will like him later in the contract.

If we are going to make a trade for a center there are a few variables we all have to keep in mind. 1) Prefer a UFA after this year or next 2)if the player is locked up at a descent rate, he will probably be younger, which is fine, but thats what we need to be looking at. The first thing I do when I think a rumor is reasonable, i look at the cap hit and years.
