Jets “on the brink” of landing Aaron Rodgers
Details: According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Jets believe they are on the brink of landing Aaron Rodgers. The team is finalizing compensation and contract details.

Interesting: Russini’s colleague Rich Cimini predicts the trade will cost the Jets their 2023 second rounder (pick No. 43) and a conditional 2024 third rounder tied to individual/team performance.
  • Cimini does not think the Jets will have to part with their 2023 first-round pick (No. 13).
Similar: Albert Breer is predicting a similar compensation package, featuring the 2023 second-rounder and a conditional 2025 pick.
  • The conditional pick would be tied to Rodgers’ performance and whether he plays in 2024.
First Round: If the Jets can hold on to the first-rounder, it can be used to boost Rodgers’ offensive line or receiving corps. Teaming OROY Garrett Wilson with a top receiver prospect like Jaxon Smith-Njigba could prove tempting.
If any of this is true, then the Texans and Colts have to fight it out for #1 pick.

I'm not the one calling it a 1st round pick. I'm on record as not valuing picks by round and prefer doing so by sequence. This is a shallow draft for top players so it has less value than other years. It's not a shallow draft overall but somewhat weak in top tier prospects. These are things GMs see when going in to trades like this while fans say things like he gave up a 1st when they did not. I have no idea if this is good trade but to damn Poles this early is more self gratification than anything else.
I didn't damn Poles, I said this was a bad move. I have generally been positive of the moves he has made, I just think this was a bad trade, and I said it from day one, when it was a mid second rounder. I think it is lose lose for the Bears and I have stood by that opinion from the start simply because he either becomes expensive quickly when they already have a bunch of other expensive holes to fill, or (as it initially was) a waste of a 2nd round pick. The fact that it turned into the 32nd pick just makes the trade worse in my opinion.

All GM's make mistakes. My opinion is that this was one that Poles made. I would much rather the Packers gave up their 2nd for him than the Bears when it went down.

As an aside, regarding the draft being weak, isn't that something that we as fans hear every year?

I feel like as a fan they (the pundits) always seem to have these early predictions about their being little talent outside of the very limited blue chip players and there always seems to be players available throughout almost the entire draft that become difference makers. I mean Mr. Irrelevant did start the NFC Championship game this year and is favored to be the starting QB for the Niners next year...

No, we don't hear it every year. Players get grades and it relates to how drafts are viewed. 2021 was considered a very deep draft and at many positions. Claypool may have been a mistake but I don't see how that could be determined at this time.

He was a mistake because even if he has 1200 yards and 10 TDs, we will have the misfortune of having to sign him to a big money deal. You see the Bears should never spend money on good players even if they have 100m in cap space. So either he sucks and isn't worth a new contract or he balls out and is worth a new contract. Either way Bears lose in this bizzaro world.

So in other words, you want really good players but not if you have to pay them?

It is, i had to look closer too, looked like a McFarlane drawing of Spawn that I never seen before at first. IDK that much about Batman and bane though, It was all Spawn, Punisher, Gambit and Hot stuff comics for me.
I only wanted to speak up to shout out to Constantine.

I am firmly in the camp of resigning Montgomery as the primary option. The second best right now is a draft pick taking advantage of competing with the guys already on roster, who each have their limitations.

This isn’t a weak class it just isn’t top heavy. This group of DL and CB’s are pretty damn deep.

Not a ton of OL depth but some really good players that’ll go in the top 3 rounds, JMS, Mauch, Avila, Wright, Wypler, Tippmann etc.. all probably go in 2 or 3, but IMO in kind of falls off after that. Still, Blake Freeland out of BYU is someone I like as a mid rounder and Vorhees can probably be had in the 5th or 6th with his injury.

The WR’s are kinda pick your poison types, there is no Jamar Chase but there is still a lot of talent there, Jayden Reed in the mid 3rd/high 4th is my guy even if they draft JSN in the 1st.

There’s starting caliber RB’s all over this draft. Pretty deep group of TE’s also.

2022 draft was considered one of the weakest draft classes in recent history. Especially at the top

I want to chime in to add that this is a really deep class for C, and it would be wise for the long term health and development of Fields to fix that position.

It would be a hell of a draft if Poles ended round 4 with two DL, two OL, and a slot receiver that can reliably get open in short spaces.

Bama got it right about it not being 2022. It's the top of this draft that I'm referring to as the discussion was about pick #32. But even last year, we had 1st round WR talent getting into round 2. This year will have more 2nd round WR talent in round 1 and then be pretty good after at WR. It simply means there would likely be a better WR prospect available at 32 in other years than this. Last year, both Watson and Higgins were on the board. This year, it would be unlikely either makes it to round 2.

Different drafts are weak or strong at different positions.

Yeah, Seattle looking smart. Giants looking very much not smart with the Jones contract and how it was handled
Guess who these two QBs are. The Giants gave Jones a massive deal...so that they could franchise tag Barkley lmao.
