It really doesn't make any sense to pay another WR if you are going to extend Mooney and Claypool at any point between this offseason and next. The way WR prices are going, you're looking at 45M+ AAV for 3 WRs, who are all not #1s. I see more St. Brown/Pringle level signings for a year or two, and then them trying to draft a guy depending on how they feel about Velus going forward.

At this point I’m not extending either Mooney or Claypool. They have another year. I need to see more

I think Claypool is more likely to get an extension this offseason if he finishes strong, say 25/400yds in the last 7 games, given this offense. They just gave up a 2nd for him and his skill set is more rare than Mooney's. But I could see them both getting deals if they are mid number 2 WR money.

no thanks on most the guys listed in that article
Love to have either of the 3 WR's from the draft especially J.Addison and J.Burton. JuJu would be a great slot, J.Meyers would be a nice addition if we want three #2 type WR's instead of spending on a #1 type in the draft or free agency/trade. Big fan of Gesicki but my guy Kmet is FINALLY being used and showing what he can do (while shutting up the Kmet haters) when he is used, so i'm good with bringing in a faster pass catching TE to go with Kmet in free agency.

I mean sure, if he blows up the last 7 games then that may change things. I'm just saying at this point I'm not there yet.

Bears drafting Burton in the 2nd is the exact pick that would make me throw up in my mouth a lil bit

I think this is going to be the Claypool game against Atl and even thinking about taking a shot on starting him in a fantasy league. They've been using Kmet a ton (compared to what he's been used to) the last 3 weeks so lets see if Atl focuses on Kmet more and we start going to Claypool and Mooney more.

Yeah those Bama receivers really stink it up in the NFL....LOL.

The article said 2nd or 3rd round.
Previous bama receivers have zero bearing on what burton is or will be

Im sure you were against drafting Fields because Ohio state QB’s too yeah?

K so why on earth do you mention previous bama receivers as if it matters in regards to burton?

I get not wanting to extend them THIS year, but there's a couple issues with that.

A) the Bears have a ton of money they HAVE to spend this offseason. They aren't going to be able to sign every FA to spend that so they have to re-sign some of their own players.

B) If you sign a FA this year to a multi-year deal.....then you basically have to decide on either Mooney or Claypool or you have to pay 3 non-#1 WRs like 50Mil/year. Both are FAs after 2023. Both are probably in a similar price range to re-sign. It basically forces you to put a FA signee (and literally all of them on the market are worse players than Mooney and Claypool) over the 2 you have, and pick between Fields' favorite target and the guy you traded an early 2nd round pick for.

Whoever is willing to sign for 15m or less you do it. The flip side is if they have a good year next year they can easily command 20m+. In this world of 20m WRs I would much rather have 2 No 2 WRs at 15m than breaking the bank on a 20-25m No 1 WR especially when it remains to be seen if Fields really will utilize a true No 1. He very well may be a guy that in the NFL is a 200 yard passer and 100 yard runner and prefers spreading it around.

Crazy thing about Fields being 2nd on that list in TD passes is not even that he throws the ball the least, it's the fact that the Bears literally refused to throw the ball in the redzone for like the first 6 weeks of the season. He does have 7 redzone TDs at this point, but 4 of them are over 15 yards. Only 3 passing TDs under 10 yards, and 1 of them was a glorified handoff to Velus. Only 1 less than 5 yards.

As a comparison, Kirk Cousins, with the best WR in football has 11 of his 14 TD passes inside the redzone, and 8 of them are less than 5 yards.
