although the bolded is true of the rules of the MLB, i strongly disagree with it

why should a team that's in a harder division(arguably since they have the 2nd best record in their league meaning they finished 2nd in their division to the best team in the league) that got a better record than a team in an easier league get the 4th seed while the other team gets the 2nd or 3rd?

i mean, i guess it has a little to do with structure(meaning that the wild card is basically the last team in, so they should get the last seed)

but i disagree with that approach when it occasionally contradicts which team is ACTUALLY better in terms of record and division

I think teams should be rewarded on winning division. So WC team should be 4th seed in my opinion. Division qualitity seems to change alot across baseball.

which is not a bad way to go..but i think the system shows flaws in some circumstances..say an 86 win team is a #2 seed in the division while a 97 win team is #4 seed(a bit extreme but you get my point)..

sure it isnt the "team's fault" that they may play in a crappy division

but i'd rather go by which team has played better throughout the course of the year than by structure

division quality does change alot throughout the year...there is alot of variability in baseball..

but by the end of the year, there should be SOME distinction as to which divisions are better

the truth is, the division quality thing is a small addition to the bigger argument which mainly concerns the quality of the team itself

There might be something changing that soon in MLB..Talks of going to 15 teams per leaugue with balance schedule. So every team would play other teams the same amount of times. Not just play your division the most
