I really hope that Blackhawks dont trade Donato short of getting 1st rd pick in return. He is the kind of player you keep and build around for a longer term. Younger veteran who leads through play and isnt gonna require enormous paycheck.
If Donatello is traded, hopefully it's for a small haul. Honestly, yes, he should be soneone we keep.

No it's not. It ads up. It's a 4th line player, it's ability to make a move, equivalent to a decent pick. I'm not saying it's a big deal but it's not nothing especially after you pay Bedard and your future goalie.

Davidson hinted we could trade the Florida pick as part of the package for proven young player as well. He called it draft capital, I don't think he cares much if it's this year and assumes it won't be.
It actually is a drop in the bucket. It's 2.8% of the cap this year, and 2.6% next year.

The 'hawks have a TON of cap space moving forward, so much that they could sign Bedard for 13.5M and STILL need to reach the cap floor--not that Bedard has earned it. Sitting on 2.5M doesn't hurt unless the team is spending to the ceiling, and the team isn't there yet and might not be there.

I think it matters in year 4 and 5 but whatever, I'm not planning to suck that long. It certainly doesnt matter the next two years.

2.6% is a big mistake. They are going to happen. If that is your only one great, good job.

2.6% + our next bad contract + overpaying Spencer Knights leverage + Bedard sales tax + attracting Marner or Petterson, etc.

The NHL is really about minimizing cap hits and bringing assets to peak fruition at the right time.

We are in great shape, need cumulative team development and 2-3 impact free agents.

I'm super high on Korchinski and the pickle and the scouts are raving about Rinzel.

Retain 2.5 million to reallocate 7 million. That’s what the goal was.

They have to trade him. Career season for a bottom 6 player. He’s having a career year because he’s playing in the top 6. Any team that trades for him isn’t going to deploy him like that so what the Hawks get for him will certainly be an overpayment. I’m guessing 2, 2nd round picks. Probably one this year and one in 2027. KD could sweeten the pot to get a 1st rounder by adding a 2nd into the mix.

People worried about 2.5 million retention must not realize it will be about 1 % of the cap in 3 years. In 2-3 years, the Hawks might just start hitting a competitive window. They have so much cap that it is inconsequential.
I'm not worried about it. It just can't become a trend. 1 percent isn't much now but if it keeps creeping up on deals it could be the difference of losing an extra young player with them all maturing at about the same time. 1 percent isn't a big deal but as said earlier that 2.5 is the going rate for a decent vet 4th liner. If we have to start paying the kids all at the same time things could get tight.

I think they got better than anyone thought they could. Kind of surprised they pulled a deal off
Yeah...consider what the Oilers and Leafs must have offered for Spencer over the last few years.

I should be eating crow not arguing the importance of 2.5 mil.

It wasn't Davidsons mistake and it couldn't have worked out better.

That said, say goodbye to Knights .938 career save % against Kings.

Holy shit ..

Cat fight for #2 between Soderblum/Gajan/Commeeso

What do we get for Mazrek from the Leafs?
Danato/Mazrek/Martinez for Marner?

Oilers?

Carolina?

I am surprised these teams don't see him as a potential shut down goalie with a stout D.

He typically is a slow starter first ten minutes and then the heat he absorbs to keep Hawks in games after that has been insane(I know he has warn down a bit last months).

Guy deserves a shot to win, imo. Fresh start he could be a difference maker.

Jones for SK makes me very happy.
Del Maestro is doing it, taking advantage of his chance.

So whats Bedard’s ceiling? He doesn’t seem to be doing a whole lot.

Should still be high; it's likely a sophomore slump. Vlassic seems to be in one as well.

Hopefully it shouldn't. Who else do we have who is grossly overpaid to the point where we have to retain salary for years to he rid of them?

That being said, I agree it shouldn't be a trend, but I think that by the time Jones' deal is up, the team should be mostly set, and the cap should be high enough that it's a blip on the radar.

It sure as hell beats 50% retained.

Nobody wants to say anything and mess this up?

Double Raptar rawwwwrrr!!

3 games with slug plug Jones.

Del Maestro is doing it. Kaiser been getting physical. Murphy jumping into the attack.

Nazar buzzing.

Maroon and Smith have been hot 🔥 like they want to win us draft picks.
What's that 4th line point streak since Reichel was benched? Maroon looks like he is worth a decent draft pick.

Trading Seth was an A+ move, but there's not much else to celebrate: this is still a bottom-5 NHL roster, without a proven GM or HC.

Until we lose in regulation the young guys are champions of the world.

I say dont lose until the deadline. High fly good vibe send off and **** Seth Jones.
