The asking price for Donato is sky high now thanks to Tampa Bay paying 2, first rounders and a 2nd for Gourde and Bjorkstrand. I wonder if KD is trying to package Donato with Martinez or maybe Murphy like he did with McCabe and Lafferty. Toronto seems like an easy partner to take advantage of given the pressure to win there currently.

I heard a rumor that LA might be looking at him and willing to part with Byfield.

We have potential draft capital as sweeteners. I'd be all over that move like Oprah on a baked ham.

Joe Velano is an interesting get for Mazrek/Smith.

We have a ton of draft capital and second round picks so not surprised they had no interest in breaking up Danoto without a compelling offer.

Still a mistake if they can't re-sign. But Danato is a good guy to keep around in a Shaw like role up and down the forward lines.

I thought they stupidly tanked Mazrek's value this season rather than seek to coddle his reputation and opportunities for resale.

To recover a former first round pick with size and speed that instantly replaced Craig Smith on the 4th line, or allows Reichel to slide to the wing ilfor a final look is the highlight of our deadline.

then with the Weber deal, we took some dead salary on a retired player to get a similar 24 yo former #11 overall first rounder with decent size.

Very shocked Maroon and Reichel and Danato and Martinez are all still here. This roster is over crowded come NCAA conclusion.

This team is enjoying playing together for the first time in a couple years so I can understand why they didn't sell Maroon, Danato, Martinez offense.

They went out and got two more potential Danato type lottery tickets. Soderstrom and Velano.

They have decent chemistry and energy at the moment and look to carry it until the NCAA call-ups and expanded rosters when the veterans can take some more breaks. Until then ..no more pussy footing ..

Danato-Bedard-Slaggert
Nazar-Teuvo-Micheyev
Dach-Foligno-Bertuzzi
Maroon-Velano/Reichel-Kurashev/Soderstrom

Vlasic-Murphy/Korchinski
Del Maestro-Kaiser
Martinez/Levshunov-Crevier

Moore/Rinzel/Ludwinski/Allen/Thompson/Greene

Logjam.

Not moving Donato was a mistake similar to keeping Foligno and Dickinson last year especially considering the prices that were being paid by buyers this deadline. Nonetheless, moving Mrazek was kind of a miracle and I question what Yzerman is doing in Detroit. By picking up Weber’s LTIR contract, I believe it signals they don’t want to spend a lot in FA just yet. They will continue evaluating the kids first and then backfill the roster perhaps the season after next when they have an estimated 85 million dollars in cap space to work with.
