I think it's because most hypothetical encounters involve them coming to Earth. To get from wherever they're from to here would necessitate far greater technological advancement.

This.... even at our level of space flight, if you even came from a nearby solar system at the speeds we can manage now, it would take a huge amount of time, so you would need to be in some advanced form of hibernation (technology we don't have) or you would need a self-sustaining ship capable of supporting generations of life on board during the journey (technology we don't have)..... or they would need some form of space flight that is far faster than anything we have, again better tech than ours.
Unless they put one of their "people" in a capsule and the corpse gets here in like 500 years or longer, its unlikely we are going to encounter any alien life with the same level of technology as we have.

I am pretty sure if they came here to "take over" they would give zero fucks about how messed up we are.... they can wipe us out all the same and then exploit the resources they want.

What's everyones thoughts on Cryonics? Pretty much incase some don't know, it means that you sign up and pay to be frozen in the hopes in years and years from now you can be brought back to life.

Could be a dark future, though. By that time, Earth will probably have been conquered by a superior life form, then they stumble upon your cryonically frozen body and decide to revive you. If they're nice, then you'll be someone's pet, otherwise, you'll be someone's slave, or maybe someone's food.
