WOLVES HONORED WITH FIVE LEAGUE AWARDS

The Chicago Wolves have been named the recipient of the American Hockey League’s 2010 President’s Award, given to an AHL organization for excellence in all areas off the ice.

The Wolves also received Team Business Service Awards for top revenue growth in the Western Conference in the categories of overall ticket sales growth, overall corporate sales growth and group ticket sales growth. Chicago also took home the award for sponsorship sales department of the year.

“These awards are a direct reflection of a very talented staff,” said Wolves President Mike Gordon. “The entire organization, both on and off the ice, strives on a daily basis to make the Chicago Wolves the best sports value in Chicago.”

The Wolves ranked third in the AHL in regular-season attendance with an average of 7,963 fans per game, which includes 11 crowds of more than 10,000. The club also set franchise records in corporate revenue and number of corporate partnerships during the 2009-10 season, which includes seeing corporate involvement increase by 24 percent.

The AHL called the Wolves organization a forerunner in unique promotions and game-night experience, and one of the league’s model organizations in terms of community relations.

The Wolves have announced six dates for the 2010-11 season, including the 17th home opener at the Allstate Arena on Sat., Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. For more information on ticket packages or group outings, visit chicagowolves.com or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.

The Chicago Wolves have signed former American Hockey League MVP and captain of the 2008 Calder Cup championship team, DARREN HAYDAR (HAY-dahr).

The 30-year-old right wing ranks 10th on the Wolves all-time scoring register with 180 points (60G, 120A) in just 124 games with the club, spanning two seasons (2006-08). He was awarded the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s most valuable player and John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the league’s leading scorer after posting a career-best 122 points (41G, 81A) in 73 games with Chicago during the 2006-07 campaign.

HAYDAR, who is the AHL’s all-time leading scorer in postseason competition with 135 career Calder Cup playoff points (59G, 76A) in 105 games, also appeared in 39 playoff games with Chicago, which includes leading the team to the 2008 Calder Cup championship. The title was his second, after winning the Calder Cup with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2004.

The Milton, Ontario, native notched 64 points (23G, 41A) in 66 games with the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters last season, and led the Grand Rapids Griffins and ranked sixth in the league with 80 points (31G, 49A) in 79 games during the 2008-09 campaign.

The University of New Hampshire graduate and 2003 AHL Rookie of the Year has also appeared in 23 career National Hockey League matchups, tallying eight points (G, 7A) with the Nashville Predators (2002-03), Atlanta Thrashers (2006-08) and Colorado Avalanche (2009-10).

Overall, HAYDAR has amassed 600 career points (224G, 376A) in 562 AHL games, spanning eight seasons with the Wolves, Admirals, Griffins and Monsters. He made hockey history while with the Wolves in 2006-07, when he collected a point in 39 consecutive games to start the season, tying Wayne Gretzky’s 1985-86 run with the Edmonton Oilers as the fourth-longest streak in professional hockey history. The streak, during which he collected 79 points (24G, 55A), is both an AHL and franchise record.

The Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman MARK MATHESON.

The 26-year-old defenseman appeared in 58 games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season and ranked fourth among team defensemen with 17 points (4G, 13A) during his third full pro campaign. He set a career high and shared fifth on the Admirals with 23 assists and ranked third among team defensemen with 25 points in a career-most 76 outings in 2008-09, which includes dishing out five assists in 10 games against the Wolves that season.

Overall, the Calgary, Alberta, native has appeared in 190 American Hockey League contests with the Admirals, spanning parts of four seasons (2006-2010), notching 46 assists, 52 points and 106 penalty minutes. He also competed in 26 Calder Cup playoff contests with Milwaukee, collecting six points (G, 5A) and 14 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, MATHESON spent four years at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (Hockey East), where he tallied 20 goals, 29 assists, 49 points and 28 penalty minutes in 131 games from 2003 to 2007.

WOLVES RE-SIGN GALIVAN AND HUNT

The Chicago Wolves have re-signed Oak Park native PATRICK GALIVAN and forward JAMIE HUNT.

GALIVAN made his professional debut in 19 games with the Wolves last season, recording two goals, six points and a +2 plus/minus rating. The 24-year-old left wing also skated in 46 ECHL contests with the Gwinnett Gladiators during his rookie campaign and ranked second on the team with 20 goals and fifth with 42 points.

Prior to turning pro, the Oak Park River Forest High School graduate completed a four-year career at Western Michigan University (CCHA), which includes leading the team with a career- high 19 goals, 28 assists and 47 points in 41 outings as a senior in 2008-09.

Overall, GALIVAN registered 35 goals, 60 assists, 95 points and 112 penalty minutes in 122 career games with Western Michigan, spanning four seasons (2005 to 2009).

HUNT set a personal American Hockey League best with six goals, 11 assists and 17 points in 42 games playing as a defenseman during his first season with the Wolves last year. His six goals shared fourth among team blueliners, while his 17 points ranked sixth among team rearguards.

Prior to joining the Wolves, the 26-year-old spent the 2008-09 season with the Augsburg Panthers of the German Elite League, compiling 21 assists, 25 points and 57 penalty minutes in 50 contests.

The Calgary, Alberta, native also spent two seasons with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, amassing 25 points (6G, 19A) and 63 penalty minutes in 96 contests. He appeared in four Calder Cup playoff outings with the Bears in 2007-08, and made his National Hockey League debut in one outing with the Washington Capitals in 2006-07.

HUNT spent three seasons at Mercyhurst College (AHA) before going pro, where he tallied 20 goals, 61 assists, 81 points and 89 penalty minutes in 98 career outings from 2003 to 2006.

The Chicago Wolves have signed defenseman DAVE PHILLIPS.

The 22-year-old defenseman made his North American hockey debut last season, when he appeared in 52 games with American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, notching six assists and 52 penalty minutes. He also competed in six ECHL outings with the Toledo Walleye, tallying two points (G, A) and two penalty minutes.

The Beverley, England, native previously spent three seasons in the Elite Ice Hockey League with the Hull Stingrays and Belfast Giants from 2006 to 2009. He set career highs during the 2008-09 campaign with Belfast, collecting 18 assists and 25 points in 54 outings, which matched a career most.

PHILLIPS began his career with the Hull Stingrays in 2003, and competed with that team for two seasons in the British National League (2003 to 2005) and one in the English Premier League (2005-06). Overall, he amassed 48 points (13G, 35A) and 278 penalty minutes in five seasons with the Stingrays (2003 to 2008.)

WOLVES SIGN FORMER WISCONSIN BADGER DAVIES

The Chicago Wolves have signed forward MICHAEL DAVIES.

DAVIES set a career-high and shared sixth in the NCAA with 52 points (20G, 32A) in 41 games as a senior with the University of Wisconsin (WCHA) last season. He ranked second on the Badgers with a career-best 20 goals and third with a career-most 32 assists. The 23-year-old also made his professional debut in three Calder Cup playoff games with the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers after Wisconsin was defeated in the 2010 NCAA National Championship game.

The Chesterfield, Mo., native shared seventh on Wisconsin with 23 points (10G, 13A) in 34 outings as a junior in 2008-09. Overall, he amassed 54 goals, 69 assists, 123 points and 122 penalty minutes in 155 games with the Badgers, spanning four seasons (2006-10).

Prior to joining Wisconsin, DAVIES recorded 28 goals, 43 assists and 71 points in 53 United States Hockey League contests with the St. Louis Heartland Eagles and Lincoln Stars, spanning two seasons (2003-04, 2005-06). He spent the 2004-05 season with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League, registering 30 goals, 27 assists and 57 points in 56 games and was named the NAHL Rookie of the Year.

WOLVES GET THREE FROM ATLANTA


The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned right wing IAN McKENZIE, and goaltenders CHRIS CARROZZI (ka-ROH-zee) and EDWARD PASQUALE (pas-KWAHL-ee) to the Chicago Wolves.

McKENZIE registered one goal and 14 penalty minutes in 24 American Hockey League games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season. The 23-year-old forward also recorded five points (3G, 2A) and 48 penalty minutes in 24 ECHL contests with the Cincinnati Cyclones last year. Overall, the Weyburn, Saskatchewan, native has tallied five points (4G, A) and 45 penalty minutes in 50 career AHL outings with Milwaukee, and 20 points (15G, 5A) and 104 penalty minutes in 64 ECHL matchups with Cincinnati during his two-year professional career (2008-10).

CARROZZI, the 2010 Ontario Hockey League Goaltender of the Year, was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers with their sixth choice, 154th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old netminder ranked second in the OHL with a 2.36 goals-against average and amassed a 19-10-5 record in 38 outings with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors last season. He also shared the league lead with five shutouts and tied for fourth in the OHL with a .916 save percentage. Overall, the Nepean, Ontario, native has registered a 77-49-12 record and a 3.09 goals-against average in 157 career OHL matchups with Toronto St. Michael’s and Mississauga St. Michael’s, spanning four seasons (2006-10).

PASQUALE notched a 27-17-5 record with a 3.17 goals-against average and .916 save percentage in 51 contests with the Saginaw Spirit during his fourth OHL season last year. His .916 save percentage shared fourth in the league while his 27 victories shared sixth. The 19-year-old netminder has posted a 75-48-13 record, 3.11 goals-against average and .911 save percentage in 142 career OHL contests with Saginaw and the Belleville Bulls, spanning four seasons (2006-10).
