I think it should be the similar amount to what we have now.. Just factoring in what comes off the books.

I think they will cut it some. I don't expect it to be some huge cut, but I expect it to be in the 120-125 million dollar range.

I think about a 10% cut will be in order due to the attendance and the economy.

If Fielder and Pujols actually make the open market I fully expect us to be the front runners to get at least one (most likely Fielder).

I'd love to raise the stakes. How about a permaban if the Cubs payroll is over 120 million for you?

Again, I'm not really sure how baseball forum = business world, but it's good to know that I will fail.

See I care if I get Perma banned, but you wouldnt....so.....Il take a perma ban if I lose this bet and I am going to have to figure out something for you that would be equal. But **** yes! I will take that bet all day!

Okay..

I like ya dews but cut this "everything is gonna go bad for the cubs thing" out.

It's nearly almost everything ya post in here.

ok ok. i will get on board and not be real. jesus christ.

Do you want it like PSD where everything is about getting brian roberts (twice) getting jake peavy because he was singing go cubs go and Adam Dunn because he likes to hit at wrigley? just curious.

No its called you sit there and say stuff like this..

Cubs won't have the money.. Ricketts is scheming to keep everyone happy.. on and on..

Dews all I gotta do is look at your post history.. Im sorry dude but this is gotta stop.

You my man.. and I know where your allegiances lie here.. but lay off on the negative/Ricketts is never gonna do anything side.

Very few of us on here say the things you accuse most of us of saying.. Not all of us are CO. :smug2:

Most of us are rooted firmly here in logic.. It may not always be agreed upon of what everyone else thinks which is completely fine.. That's what boards are for.

Just clearing the air here cause its getting a little old. Hope you understand.

Then what are you basing your argument on? I am honestly asking because I would love to be able to evaluate the sources behind your argument.

Look, you do not know who I know, and who I talk to and for that matter what I do. But I assure you I know more than someone in the general public.

Well good for you...

And as an aside it is nice to see you are so defensive to avoid actually responding to anyone slightly critical of your opinion.

We're allowed to speculate somewhat. There are a few factors:

1. Wrigley Field needs a crapload of renovations and maintenance over the next few years or else it'll crumble under its own age.

2. The debt-load placed upon the Ricketts family by the Tribune during the sale.

3. The reduced revenue from economic and Cubs-sucking factors.

4. The part where they picked a third-round pick in the first-round to save slot money.

So it's not illogical to suggest that the Cubs may have some financial restrictions in the future. At the same time, we don't know everything. The best indicator will be what players they sign in the offseason, as well as how many draft picks they are able to sign from this year.

You are talking last year right?

Yup. They also picked Colvin in the first round to have enough $ to sign Samardzija, but that was a different situation than last year. Last year was a major WTF.

Eh if there is one person I trust to draft its Wilken. I mean they did spend later on in the draft.

It was a shock, but I trust Wilken.

You may be right about that Dew, but I can think why I might be skeptical about a person on the internet claiming knowledge that I don't know and can't be shown to me.

Doesn't mean you might not be right, but it doesn't mean I should believe either you...

I respect that sir. As I would be the same.

Wojciechowski: Ricketts is a wishy-washy owner

Wojciechowski: Chicago Cubs sinking fast under wishy-washy Ricketts - ESPN Chicago

Ricketts is the face of the franchise, but so far he hasn't been its voice.

Nobody expects him to be George Steinbrenner. Or Hank Steinbrenner, for that matter. But it's OK to show some emotion and passion. And it's even more OK to throw in a few details now and then.

It's nice to say you're going to build your organization from the ground up. Congratulations. But Ricketts first needs to address the top of his organization and then work down.

If Jim Hendry is "Dead General Manager Walking," as everyone assumes him to be, team president Crane Kenney better be walking right beside him. Sorry -- your legacy has to be more than the Captain Morgan Club or trying to turn Wrigley Field into Fenway Park Jr.

The Boston Red Sox make money because they win, because they spend money and because they usually spend it well. They give their fans that reason to believe. Yes, they have some economic advantages, but there's never any doubt about management's pursuit of winning.

  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Toledo Rockets
From what Ricketts has shown he's not a all there as an owner, BUT, he's still new to this and has barely gotten his feet wet. After 5 years of ownership I think will be a good sample size to give us a somewhat grade on him.

Yes, Gene, > 2 years owner Tom Ricketts is the problem. He assembled this team, the farm system, the management. So yeah, it's his fault. Idiot.
