Per Gordon Edes on twitter-

If Theo goes to Chi, Sandberg will be favorite to be named manager. Theo tried to hire Sandberg for Pawtucket last winter

Is Epstein advising the Cubs on who to trade for him?

That's a big first decision lol

No. Randy Bush is doing the negotiating.

It's going to be a money transfer, but if somehow player names start getting tossed around, i'm sure Bush and Theo will speak, with Bush calling Theo from a pay phone. lol

That's just a good sign for the Cubs. The longer is drags out, the more likely Theo is comin' to the Cubs!

Oh, right, because you'd be such a better option? I'm sorry, but if I am a terrible choice, then that has got to make you the worst choice. At least I have an understanding into how metrics work, while you think that Ramirez sucks :bowrofl:

I want to see where I said Ramirez sucks.

LOL at CO thinking I was serious about him being GM.

It's a step forward for the Cubs, and I really hope this works out, though I'm definitely :nervous:

Your team has alot of issues besides GM.

And how do you fix those issues? By getting a good GM. Duh.

Theo will be a nice hire but who's going to pitch for ya outside Garza?

Well that's for Theo to decide.

i know you guys love him lol

No dice, Hoss. Kaplan sucks.

Should we trust Kap gut? LMAO

No. But in this case it's kinda obvious that Theo is coming here.
No possible way would they give up Castro.

Unfortunately, I can see Garza going in exchange for Lackey and his contract as part of the Theo deal. Garza used to pitch very well against the Red Sox so they probably think a lot of him.

Hopefully that's not what happened though.

Garza for Lackey would be the worst idea ever. Garza is way better than Lackey and cheaper.
Boston is in no position to be asking for an upper echelon player or players in return for Epstein.

The reason is, they have a GM who obviously wants to be somewhere else. Where is their leverage in this situation?

They'd basically be saying:

"If you guys (the Cubs) don't give us Starlin Castro for Theo then we'll be forced to hold him to his contract next year and make for a potentially awkward situation being that our GM doesn't want to work for us anymore and may become disgruntled as a result."

Since when does Theo not want to be in Boston?
seems some people still think he could stay...is that just hope in BOS

Actually most of the Boston writers have accepted he is coming here. It's mostly just Jon Heyman that is in denial about the matterr.
Jackson alone is worth more than Epstein, and BOS's OF is set

They could certainly use depth, considering only 1 of their OFers was worth more than 2 wins last year. If Crawford continues to suck, they could certainly sit his ass.

Because Jackson's our top prospect, Epstein is just a GM and we can get someone else without giving up a top spec, and because my name is Jackson.

You're telling us you can't be objective on the matter. Thanks. Now stfu. Jackson is so hyped. He has no guarantee to be anything, like you seem to think. While I would love to see what he can do for us, if it's between one prospect and Theo, I'm taking Theo all day. Theo can build you the winner, while the prospect is just 1 player.

So if Hendry won 2 WS, you'd trade Brett Jackson for him?

Szczur I see as Sori's replacement in LF eventually, don't trade him until his stock is higher anyway even if we do get a different LF down the road.

You are suuuuuch a homer on every Cubs prospect, I swear.

As for the Hendry question, that's just stupid.
That'd be scary

No one would give a ****, though, because it would mean that the Cubs won a WS.
And then he starts another drought :lmao:

You're so funny.

I'm starting to think that either Epstein really wants to fix the mess that is the Red Sox, or what the Red Sox want for Epstein is too much

You're being silly if you think that the Cubs are going to go this far and decide that he is too much.

So it went from pretty much done to only decent now.

Looking like the Cubs may have to start looking at plan 1A or B.

No, no, no. You're assuming that Jon Heyman, Mr. I still don't think this deal will get done, is right. He hasn't been right about anything in this saga yet. Therefore I would take what he says with less than a grain of salt.

Playing devil's advocate:

Did anyone ever consider that Epstein's people may have planted this latest story to get the Red Sox to ante up and give him more power/$$$?

Your name is Captain Obvious...I thought this would be quite obvious to you. :)

It was speculation on my part but, the writing is certainly on the wall:

Rumors started swirling that he wanted more power with the Red Sawx (I.E. Team President Larry Luccino's job) and that his relationship with the Luccino was icy cold.

Then, these latest rumors started that he was on the verge of joining the Cubs.

Now, this stuff may have been planted by Epstein's people just to get the Red Sawx to ante up and give him the $$$ and power that he wants.

Doesn't sound like a person who wants to remain in Boston does it?

To my recollection.. Dews has never said Ramirez sucks.

When asked if he would take him on the Sox... well he said yes.

Since you can't turn down a good bat.

It's gone way beyond the point of those kind of tactics.

if they were doing that sort of misleading it would have been early. not now.

He may have planted the story. He may not have, as well. The sole fact that he is from Boston makes it *obvious* to me that he doesn't totally want out. There have been a couple of articles even posted in this thread saying he wants to stay, but he has to weigh personal vs. professional.
