Cubs Agree To Deal With Theo Epstein

Theo Epstein has agreed on a five-year deal worth more than $15MM with the Cubs, according to WEEI's John Dennis. The deal could be finalized this week, once the teams work out compensation and the Cubs decide on a title for the longtime Red Sox GM.

Congrats to the Cubs and their fans. I applaud the Cubs for "going for the jugular" and trying to get the best personnel in place to not only win now but, in the future as well.

It's going to be fun on the north side of Chicago for the next several years.

I'm surprised the Cubs were able to do this but I'm pretty happy with the decision. Ricketts said he wanted to model Boston and signing Epstein would seem to make the most sense to do that. Now perhaps I won't have to complain about my team continuing to ignore the importance of obp.

I think we should be careful if fans are considering Epstein to be a savior. I recall a similar situation taking place with the Bears in 2009.

Epstein will only go as far as Ricketts will let him and I have to believe that Epstein wouldn't have came here if he was going to be financially strapped but I don't know that for sure, Epstein is gonna be paid a lot of money himself.

I'm going to remain neutral on the hiring not because I think it's a bad hire. It's not a bad hire, it's the best hire the Cubs could have made in my opinion. However, for a team that hasn't won a championship since 1908 and the fact that the Cubs have absolutely exhausted me with all the losing, I won't let myself get excited about this.
