Sorry to disappoint you, yes I do mean Cutler and it couldn't be any more comparable even despite one being a player and the other a front office person...
No it couldn't be.

One of these two men has a direct impact on who is on the team. The other doesn't. Cutler isn't building the team around him. Epstein is controlling players, coaches, etc at all levels. Cutler being on the team may impact indirectly who Angelo targets, but Cutler isn't making the choices. Angelo is.

Cutler was viewed as a savior based off of previous success elsewhere and the fact that the Bears have never had a franchise quarterback.
Epsteins success>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Cutler's success before coming to Chicago. Cutler was a young up and coming QB who made a Pro Bwol despite Phillip Rivers being better. Epstein is a young GM who is already one of the best in the game and has two championships in one of the toughest markets in baseball(fan base/criticism wise).

The rest of your post was pointless. Again, Cutler can't build the team around himself. He has virutally no control over player personnel decisions. Epstein will be building an entire system once he gets here. There is no reasonable comparison between the two other than Chicago fans being meatheads about it all. Rickett's has shown himself so far to be rather hands off with Hendry, so much so as to letting him trade etc even after he was "fired". I really doubt the fanbase has any realistic worries of Rickett's being too control happy in terms of Epstein and the FO anymore than any average owner would be.

Comparing Epstein to Cutler is ridiculous. One is much more important than the other.

They kept Ed Lynch in another capacity when they fired him as GM 10 years ago haha.

Anything is possible with the Cubs, except winning the World Series of course :troll:

Hopefully Theo doesn't really care about what has been done before unless it worked

There is a chance he'd keep Quade anyway if next year's team is going to be a train wreck, which wouldn't surprise me and to be honest, until this team is in contend-mode, I don't really care who the manager is or what he does as long as he doesn't injure pitchers.

Rick's entire theory sounds like the premise for a shitty segment with David Kaplan or a shitty article by Phil Rogers.

The underlying theory is that you shouldn't expect overnight miracles even with Theo at the helm. I don't think most intelligent Cubs fans think he's going to start shitting gold and firing rainbows out of his mouth when he burps after eating a bison dog

Good to be cautiously optimistic. Nobody knows what Theo is going to do or how this will turn out, so hope for the best.

Actually I don't even know if a bison dog is kosher so maybe he'll just have the nachos instead.

The point is though it makes more sense to expect "overnight" success with a new proven winning GM who controls the entire roster than it does expecting it with the addition of one player............ If one is going to expect it.

Comparing the two guys and the two situations isn't really all that apt. Cutler came to a 9-7 borderline playoff team and was expected to put them over the top.

Epstein is coming to a dysfunctional and awful baseball team but Epstein actually has the ability to overhaul the entire roster/system if he chooses to and can. Cutler couldn't.

Not expecting overnight success with Epstein shouldn't be the mindset because of what happened with Cutler and the Bears. It should be the mindset because the Cubs sucked last year, and for the most part have been pretty bad for the majority of the last century. Not to mention there is a lot of bad paper and bad players on this team as we stand right now, which further handcuffs Epstein.

If Cubs fans need to draw bad comparisons to Cutler to try and temper their expectations they have not been watching or following this team.

Oh, I separated the Cutler thing from my thoughts on Epstein. Apples and oranges.

11:56am: There's some discussion as to whether the red sox will obtain minor leaguers or cash from the cubs, according to jon heyman of si.com (on twitter). It appears that the red sox prefer cash.

When will Bush and Cherington come to an agreement?

For that matter why is a man who might be out of a job negotiating this deal?

Maybe Theo will keep him as s minion *shrug*
