What was the Tank when he got signed? I remember his contract was 4/$10 million

When Tank was signed he was the 61st rated prospect in baseball. Most experts seem to think that Soler will be a top 50 prospect.

Also you really can't compare the signing bonuses because there is a big external factor that is driving up the price of Soler, and that is the new caps on spending. This is the last chance for teams to get talent withuot worrying about how it effects their ability to get more talent. A bunch of teams are used to spending far more on amateur talent than they are allowed to now, including the Cubs. That is why Soler is going to get a ridiculous amount of money. That is why Concepcion got a ridiculous amount of money. They have talent, Soler far more than Concepcion, but that is why their bonuses are going to be crazy.

I think it was 11 or even higher. The difference is the leverage in term of the spending limit soon to be had and I don't think Tank was as highly regarded as Soler.

So apparently Soler is in Haiti and not the Dominican Republic. This thing is becoming sketchier by the minute.

Sources: Next round of bids for Jorge Soler are due this weekend, and right now, the most aggressive teams are Cubs, Yankees, ATL, and LAD.

Hopefully the Cubs sign him. But wherever he signs he better be worth the money he's getting

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  2. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Chicago State Cougars
  2. DePaul Blue Demons
  3. Illinois-Chicago Flames
  4. Loyola Ramblers
  5. Northern Illinois Huskies
  6. Northwestern Wildcats
The Dodgers are interesting to be added into the mix. Also wondering how many rounds of bids are going to be accepted here. I know this will get done before July 2nd, but I want this done and over with so he can get over here if he is going to sign.

According to Kevin Goldstein the Dodgers are a long shot for Soler. I'm still hopeful that the Cubs win because I really want something good to happen for this team in the next couple of days.

It could still be argued that not spending a bajillion dollars on a prospect would be something good

I wouldn't mind having him in the system though. Hopefully the other teams didn't go too nuts and the Cubs didn't bid that much.

I agree to an extent, but this team's payroll was basically budgeted for spending a ton on Soler. It is a risk, but we need talent. And Soler is talented according to everyone who has seen him.

Unlike other huge contracts this won't be as bad as an albatross if it fails but it'd be a bigger risk than Concepcion was. I guess it won't hurt too bad and if nothing else, business tax break.

Only a four-year deal so I guess they intend on fast-tracking him to the majors.

It might be a 4 year deal, but that doesn't mean that he gets the you have to grant him free agency at the end of those 4 years that Cespedes got. I doubt the Cubs would be willing to give Soler that when they weren't to the more ready Cespedes.

I think it'd be sort of like Samardzija's deal where he's eligible for arbitration next year, but every single year of the deal he must be on the 40-man and burns an option.
