Fields is a shoe in for the type of college QB that could start immediately.

Do you even want a camp battle or nah?

Do you prefer the Mahomes route?

I wouldn’t even call it a camp battle. If Fields learns the offense and is ready to go, he’s going to play. It doesn’t matter how “good” Dalton looked or what they told him in the offseason. This is Fields team.

I believe there will be a camp battle. And I also believe Fields will be ready and show he's much better than Dalton.

He likely takes Depakote or the like in a cocktail for his epilepsy. These would be the most troubling possible side effects outside of more rare liver damage and he clearly isn't showing any of them.
  • dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, tremors;
  • memory problems, mood changes;
He had full on seizures, not the mild flake out kind. May have dropped him but shouldn't have, considering his history since the meds.
And yet these never kept him out of any high school or college game and people will tell you hes basically cool, calm and collected at all times so that rules out mood swings. He's been dealing with this his whole life and been fine. I expect him to continue to manage this just great.

Jesus....what are you 5000 posters anointing Fields as the next coming of Sid Luckman going to do if he fucking bombs just like Trubisky?

My hope is he doesn't and leads the Bears to 27 super bowls. But the dick slobbering has become quite obseseve lately.

If Nagy was smart and Fields doesn’t win the job outright in camp, you just make him 3rd string.
This may be an option. It’s cheaper to keep Foles, and less pressure on Fields

If he's the next coming of Sid Luckman, we're fucked because Sid Luckman would be Dud Badluckman in 2021.

Bears are saying the right things to the media. It takes the pressure off Fields and puts it on them, in case he isn’t ready and needs time. That’s all this is. If you listen Nagy says when Fields is ready everyone in the building will know. That means he could start week 1, depends on him.

As fans if he isn’t starting we have to try to be patient. It’s not because of politics it will be because the coaches feel that is what is best for him. Just forget he exists and take a nap while Dalton plays.

I think a lot of people are misreading the situation. Fields changes everything. They no longer have to win to save their jobs. A good thing for them because the schedule looks daunting. They do need to play a much improved offensive game than we've seen from Nagy and company in the past. Get Fields in there only when he's ready....if that's pre-season, the 5th game, whatever. Once he's in there and jump starts the offense and the Bears start looking like an exciting team again.....both Pace and Nagy will be back. Even if they finish 7-10 or 6-11.

The other side of the coin....if Fields gets in there and sucks......everyone will be gone including most of the fanbase.

"The 2021 Andy Dalton is not the 2017 Alex Smith "

No truer words have ever been spoken I don't even see how its even a debate especially when you consider that Fields first day at training camp as a Bear will also be Daltons first day at training camp as a Bear .

There is no need for Dalton to be QB1 to give Fields advice and answer questions

I’m hoping for a camp battle like Seahawks did when Wilson beat out two highly paid free agent qbs. If fields seems ready while dalton looks like a corpse out there he should start. If fields looks overwhelmed then let him sit. Nothing should be set in stone. Give fields a legit chance to compete. Don’t close the door on him starting but don’t just hand him the keys without earning it first. Just like Seahawks draft status or cap status didn’t dictate who starts. Do the same thing here and we can win

This is pretty much what I want to see play out. Allow for real competition in training camp and if Fields beats Dalton and Foles, then go ahead and start him.

I think the other aspect that will be interesting to monitor is actually the viewpoint of the other players on the team. They will be at those practices and they see if/when Fields is really ready to be the starter. If that happens early, how long would Nagy and Pace be able to stick the 'plan' to play Dalton and keep Fields on the bench if the rest of the team knows that Fields gives them the best chance to win. I think that would have more influence than fans and media.

How the fuck can you keep Justin Fields off the field?

He's bigger than our running backs and WRs.
He's as fast as or faster than any of our RBs.
He's faster than some of our WRs.
He has the strongest arm on the team.
No one in the QB room comes close to being able to carry his jock in terms of mobility.
He's played in stadiums that hold as many people as any NFL stadium
He's been on national TV, and is on a team that is more popular than the Bengals or Brown in Ohio. The coach at Ohio state faces more scrutiny than the governor.

The question is whether he could handle the speed of the NFL. Well, I'll say from an athletic perspective, he's better able to handle it than Nick Foles or Andy Dalton. It's a matter of whether he could pick up the play book, gel with his team mates, and make good decisions on the field. That's what training camp is for.

Don't even compare Justin Fields to Trubisky. Trubisky never had the size, speed or arm talent as Justin Fields. Trubisky never had the experience or success in college that Justin Fields had, even while facing weaker competition. Trubisky did not generate the excitement that we're having with Fields. I, along with many many many, Bears fans groaned at the pick. So many wanted Watson or Mahommes, or to wait the following year for QB since the "experts" believed that no QB from that draft was NFL ready. The experts were right on Trubisky at least.

If he's clearly better than Dalton and Fools then start him on opening day

If he's not ready, wait until as long as it takes for him to be ready.

Problem I forsee is that if Dalton sucks ass and the bears are 0-4; fields will magically be "ready" by week 5.....

It's in this scenario where I hope they hang on to fools so they can go to him first time replace Dalton...however; if fields is ready week 1, then move fools for a late conditional pick.

Racism?

Seriously, the Bear are being careful and have made certain they could do it this way. I think it's a good plan but hopefully not written in stone beyond the 1st 1/4 season. OL will need a few weeks to gel anyway.

Jets have no QBs capable of starting outside of Wilson.

Jags do but with a new coaching staff, probably want to just start with the new toy and will build the new O accordingly.

Of all the draftee's he is the most seasoned to start right off the get go. Lots of college games under his belt, big games at that.

Rookie of the year boys
