"Bears players have selected five co-captains for the 2017 season: quarterback Mike Glennon and guard Josh Sitton on offense, linebacker Jerrell Freeman and safety Quintin Demps on defense, and Sherrick McManis on special teams."

So, they picked the other guard that isn't injured and doesn't fight teammates. Long has lost the team. And, as he tentatively plans his week 1 day off, he's slowly losing the fan base as well. Next is the coaches... this is a development to watch.

Quite the fall from grace as the "face of the franchise"

Just another day in the life of the Bears. Let's tear down another good player and get him out of here for not being 100% perfect in every way. He can join Marshall, Bennett, Jeffery, and on and on. Meanwhile the great Gentry isn't starting, what a travesty right Bears nation?

He has been injured.

Josh Sitton has also played over a decade, has 4-5 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl.

Not shocked at all.

Just kind of surprising to have a player go from "face of the franchise" to not even being the top 5 leader of a rebuilding, talent starved team.

It's high time he puts his money where his mouth and twitter fingers are. Maybe Kyle should put down his Xbox controller and hit the weight room. Just my imo.

But they did make a player a captain who was suspended a quarter of the season for a PEDs violation. Makes sense to me.

Captains are voted on by the players of the team. Long not being picked speaks volumes.

It means players like other players who are cheaters and get suspended, negatively impacting the team for a quarter of the season, but not players who beat up on their own teammates. I get the Long thing but I don't get the Freeman thing.

I will never understand how someone of Long's elite physical dominant physique and superior football genetics could be so injured literally most of the entire season every year until I started watching his Twitch stream and reading his tweets, then I somewhat understand but it is still also baffling as well because the presumed "alphaness" he is heralded from should inspire "work" "ethic" that would presumably compensate or make up for his laziness resting on the laurels of his Gosh-given elite football body and get him into the hospital for needed surgeries and into the fitness centre for recovery so he is ready to show the team and the fans why he is a number one pick. But alas, the reports early on that his body is so big and strong that he doesn't even really work out hard like a hard-working early-rising and last-person-to-leave the facility were probably right and it's a shame that someone with that elite body would be such an underachiever. The only way I would ever even begin to understand this is that it is mental or a psychological sense of entitlement he grew up with and it is affecting his outlook on how he should operate as a professional NFL football league player. The fact that he thinks he can get away with fighting his own team-mates because he is so psychologically frustrated that his elite body doesn't outweigh the need to work hard to get better and recover from his injuries that probably wouldn't even be so badly if he were to hit the fitness centre as hard as he hits the X-box is really disturbing and frustrating both to me as a fan and I'm sure to the team-mates he tries to beat up. Get it together please Kyle the Bears need you now more than ever to show you are a professional and locker room leader, not just say it in your tweets and when you try to start fights with players that are healthier and more game-ready than you!!!

It's obvious that Long is one of the big PED-poppers in the NFL. He gets a pass because of who his daddy is.

I get the Long thing but I don't get the Freeman thing.

A lot of things in every day supplements can show in PED tests. It has to be strictly enforced by the league, but I think most players and coaches know when it's not a case of someone purposely "cheating". I have no problem with freeman being a captain if the coaches don't.

This is idiotic.

You read that?

I heard he has a short trip planned with Justin Bieber, Kanye West, and Satan to head up to Alaska to club a few baby seals and harpoon a whale or two, but plans to be available for week 2.

This is idiotic.
What would happen if a team had 2 guys that wanted to be the last guy to leave the facility?
