Amazing that ****** has a 10 page thread about nothing.
Very Seinfeldian.
Very Seinfeldian.
Actually, it's a throwback to a running joke there used to be in this forum.
Just kind of surprising to have a player go from "face of the franchise" to not even being the top 5 leader of a rebuilding, talent starved team.
.
When was Kyle Long the face of the franchise? . . .
. . . Another question - when an offensive lineman is the face of the franchise have you officially hit rock bottom? . . .
I already clarified, shoopstain... he's always been the mouth of the franchise, while smokin' jay was the mug of the franchise.
It was a 2-part effort to make this franchise look like the epitome of incompetent.
It means players like other players who are cheaters and get suspended, negatively impacting the team for a quarter of the season, but not players who beat up on their own teammates. I get the Long thing but I don't get the Freeman thing.
There are no excuses when you have a staff trained on the topic and can tell you what you can and cannot take.
It's water under the bridge but rewarding him after that seems wrong to me. His actions hurt the team for 1/4 of the season and it was due to stupidity, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
"Rara" types that don't perform to their "rara" level tend to wear thin on guys. Being a leader is a tough job, a job title that Kyle should pass the torch to someone else.
Just play ball and hut the **** up!
is he like that in the locker room or just for the media.....Kyle hasn't been voted team leader for three years. The only dust-up in his career was a few weeks ago; never heard he wears thin on people(except Novak) or is disliked by teammates.......
fake news
Hardly, you don't like Novak and disagree with anything he says. I have no dogs in this fight.
He took on a role of leadership, that much was obvious and it might have been needed at the time. But that time has obviously passed and he is not that leader he thought he was anymore. That doesn't make him a bad guy or a bad player, it just makes him not the leader or captain.
No more no less.
I don't dislike anyone......these are all disembodied words around here....I find Novak's obsession weird...
Kyle took a public role with the media and fans....this is not the same as behind closed doors with the team. There are plenty of players in sports that are public faces that the media loves talking to and fans interact with, but are not captains of the team. We literally have no idea if Long thought he was a team leader in the locker room or what that dynamic was. People are just guessing what goes on behind closed doors.
You're right, we don't know about what goes on behind closed doors. But that's what we do on MB's, speculate.
I can't imagine that his teammates approve of his social media stuff or even the other media driven stuff. That is the kind of stuff that rubs people the wrong way. Plus he is quite overrated in terms of his play. He's not exactly a road grader in the run game\, even with his hands on LBers, I thought he would be much better in the 2nd level.
he has/had an obsession with twitter....he is sort of a big dumb kid that way. He has toned it down of late, probably due to the season. Kyle Long isn't a big 300 lb oaf. He excels at pulling and zone blocking. Our line is built for zone blocking and run the outside zone to a high level because of our guards mobility. If the Bears wanted road graders they would have gotten them. He's not a road grader on purpose.
I agree with this. His strong suit is his athleticism and lateral speed, and it shows when he's pulling, pinning, or crossing. Which is great, it's exactly what the bears scheme requires of its interior linemen. His strength has never been his "strength" at the point of attack, which is why he didn't/won't excel as an OT in this league. Especially in the run game.
However...
It's completely fair to question his effectiveness (considering what his strengths are) after his ankle and shoulder injuries. THEY DIRECTLY HINDER WHAT HE'S BEEN GOOD AT IN THIS LEAGUE!!! To brush his injuries off, or like some have done, simply attack my football acumen, is disingenuous and wrong. Kyle will struggle mightily to be as effective as he was in previous years. That's just a fact.
Anyone who thinks he's just going to jump right into the fray again and start dominating is setting themselves up for disappointment. He's going to struggle to even be serviceable for a while.
