What the Street Fighter Community Tournament Players Have to Say about MK2011
Justin Wong (A.K.A. the debatably best MvsC2 player in the world and even more debatably the best SSF4 player in North America).
“I [haven’t] played it yet, but I watched all the videos that’s been uploaded online, and I kinda want to play the game just because it’s a new game and I like playing new games in general. I’m just a video game nerd or whatever. [Also], I was always a big Sub-Zero fan. I will be playing it, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be good at it.”
Marn (A.K.A. The best Dudley player in the world; one of the best Crimson Viper players in the world; one of the current high-ranking MvsC3 tournament players)
“I was a Killer Instinct guy, so I don’t really play Mortal Kombat that much, but I’ll play it just to see how well I do [because] I really want to become a person where people think I’m good at more than one game.”
Combofiend (A.K.A. a seasoned tournament player who's proficient pretty much every popular 2D fighting game, particularly MvsC2, SF3 Third Strike, CvS2, SSF4, and recently came in first place in MvsC3 at the "Final Round" Tournament. You could say he's pretty good at this stuff)
“I mean, from what I see, it looks alright. It’s really flashy. Just from the look of it, it might be good, but I don’t know about the actual playability of it. I haven’t got my hands on it. Hopefully it is. The Ultimate Mortal Kombat series is pretty cool, so hopefully it’s more fast-paced and more exciting, and that could be fun.”
PR Balrog (A.K.A. one of the best Balrog players in the world, and considering the ocean of Balrog players, that's huge statement)
“Oh, I’m in there! Honestly, that was my first game competitively. I use to go with my dad to Minnesota and be in tournaments and stuff. I used Cyrax. He was a bad character, but by that time we didn’t know +$#%. (In response to whether he played the demo): [No,] I don’t like spoiling everything... I don’t like demos and betas.”
Mike Ross (A.K.A. the best E. Honda player in the world. This is not debatable. Evo Online can suck it)
“I’m definitely going to give it a shot. Everybody I talk to wants to at least play it because the game just straight up looks too fun. You know, you can’t deny that. Everybody has seen videos of all the fatalities and stuff. It just looks too interesting. You have a to try it. I don’t know if I’m going to be good at it, but I’m definitely going to play it just for fun when I got nothing better to do.”
Arturo Sanchez (A.K.A a very skilled Dhalsim player from New York; also know for using Rose exceptionally)
“At first, I was very skeptical because Midway had a really tight cap on things as far as information. They did a good job of keeping all the information under wraps at a controlled pace. As the game gets closer to release and I’ve seen more of it, I’ve talked to several tournament players who have tested the game; I can’t mention any names obviously, [because] I don’t want to put them on blast, but they’ve been telling me the game is good. Ed Boon invited them to [NRS] studios, and they’ve been playtesting it [and] getting rid of all the bugs, so based off that and my early impressions of the demo, I definitely think it’s promising and it’s exciting that an American developer is going to be at the largest American tournament in the US. [This] is the first time that’s actually happened. I’m excited to see the turnout for it.”
Air (A.K.A. The best Ryu player in Canada; possibly the best Canadian SSF4 player overall)
“I’ll give it a shot for sure cause I use to love this game when I was a kid. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
Filipino Champ (A.K.A Best Dhalsim player in the world... probably. You can debate this +$#% all day, but I personally think he is)
“I’m always open, especially if the game is in Evo. I’ll always try to play it at least so I can compete, you know. When it comes out I’m going to try to play it, give it like a week, and if I like it, [I’ll] continue playing it. I’m going to give it a try.”
Wolfkrone (A.K.A. a really really really good Crimson Viper player)
“I was a fan back in the day. I use to play Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES. That game was fun. I played [the demo]. It seems pretty good. It seems like I can apply some Street Fighter knowledge to it [in terms of] fundamentals because it’s on a 2D platform. You can play footsies on that game. I’m thinking about getting into that game. I was playing it yesterday because we just got it yesterday. I was surprised they were going to have this game at Evo [because] it’s so gory.”
Yipes (A.K.A. an incredible MvsC2 player who started the Pringles/Mango-Sentinel Meme. People mistakenly think he wears a rosary around his neck, but it's actually an osirian artifact, and it's source of his powers)
"“I’m definitely going to jump [into MK2011]. I use to play Mortal Kombat with my brothers and cousins and stuff. The last real game I was playing was [Mortal Kombat Trilogy]. I was a big Ermac player, so I might pick up Ermac on the new one. Yeah, you’re definitely going to see me in [Mortal Kombat]. I got to get to use to that control set again!”
Ultra David (A.K.A. a seasoned Zangief player, one of the most famous stream commentators in the scene. He's also a lawyer in the gaming industry)
“I’m actually very excited for it. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure whether it will be a good game. I don’t know if I have that expectation, but I really hope it will be. And from what I’ve seen, it looks like it definitely has the ability to be a good game. I mean, everybody will take it seriously at first because of the 21,000 national tournament prize. That’s just too much money to not train seriously for! It’ll be at Evolution as well. It’s guaranteed to be there, [so] people will take it seriously. I hope it will be good, and I haven’t played a Mortal Kombat in tournament before.... it will be a new experience for me, but it’s one I’m definitely looking forward to.”
