I know I replied to the GG post, but I did mean in consensus I’ve seen Will Johnson has fallen down on multiple draft boards. Turf toe and hammy aren’t really long term concerns….

Well the turf toe and hammy has been re-occurring for a good portion of the year I think? If so then yea that starts to become a concern but shouldnt be enough to drop him more than a few spots...

I think it is the injuries… turf toe and then hamstring. It’s like an out of sight, out of mind thing. There’s currently no one really hyping him up to keep his name in the headlines.

Ultimately, we don’t know the reality of what teams are thinking. This guy is certainly not that connected to have league-wide insight on something teams aren’t really sharing. That said, I rarely see anyone put him top 5 on their boards.

And being a blue chip doesn’t always mean you get picked over premium positions. Bowers was the 13th pick last year and there weren’t 13 blue chips.
A CB is a premium position though, unlike TE. If Johnson is available at 10, he would easily be BPA especially over Warren or a G/T.

Bruce Feldman who creates the college football freaks list posted his annual mock draft at The Athletic.

When the Bears selected, Graham, Membou, Williams, and Campbell were off the board. Warren was still available.

From the article:

This is my fifth annual NFL mock draft based on all the intel I’ve gathered from speaking to dozens of college coaches and NFL sources during the past two months.

My goal with this project is to provide unique insight directly from the eyes of rival coaches who have not only studied and scouted these prospects but game-planned for and then faced each of them — in many cases, more than once. Those sources, granted anonymity to speak freely about the prospects, know exactly what they’re dealing with and what they’ve tried to do against these players in real-game situations.

10. Chicago Bears: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

Chicago strengthened its interior O-line this offseason, and a juiced-up running game should be a big help for last year’s top pick, Caleb Williams. With both Jeanty and UNC’s Omarion Hampton available, the Bears have their pick of who they want to team with D’Andre Swift to give new coach Ben Johnson a 1-2 punch similar to what he had in Detroit.

Jeanty is coming off a dazzling 2024 in which he rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 TDs to lead the Broncos to the Playoff and finish No. 2 in the Heisman race. He had 10 rushes of 60-plus yards and five of 70-plus. You have to go back to 2018 to find anyone who even had six of 60-plus.

Scouts have compared the 5-8, 211-pounder to LaDainian Tomlinson (for his all-around skill set), to Maurice Jones-Drew (Boise State OC Dirk Koetter coached both and saw the parallels) and to Alvin Kamara (because of his freakish ability to stay balanced).

ā€œYou take him off that team, and they’re not close to a Playoff team,ā€ said a secondary coach who faced Boise State last year. ā€œHe’s got very good vision, good patience. He bounces off people, runs through contact. It was rare for one guy to bring him down. And I liked that he gets better as the game goes on.

ā€œHe reminded me of Ezekiel Elliott in how he ran. I do think guys didn’t go in with confidence to take him down, like some guys were intimidated by him. That ain’t gonna be the case in the NFL.ā€

Yes I’ve seen that since December— I don’t think teams were in love with his speed if I recall correctly.

I found this interesting from Bruce Feldman’s mock. Burch is a player that fits the Allen mold for edge and a prospect I’ve mentioned I’d like to see drafted by the Bears. I’ve never seen his name in round 2.

ā€œ37. Philadelphia Eagles (via Raiders*): Jordan Burch, DL, Oregon

Philly needs to re-stock its D-line. Ole Miss’ Walter Nolan would be a good fit, but I expect him to be gone by this point. Burch slimmed down for the combine to get to 279 pounds at 6-4 with 33-inch arms (he played the season almost 20 pounds heavier). As expected, he ran exceptionally well — 4.67 in the 40. He was banged up for four games in 2024, missing three due to a knee injury. He still managed 11 TFLs and 8.5 sacks. No one doubts his talent and upside, but his consistency has been a concern.

ā€œWhen he wants to go, he’s a first-round talent,ā€ a Big Ten offensive line coach said. ā€œHis deficiency is that he’s really like a 3-4 defensive end, but I don’t think he sees himself like that. It’s like he just wants to be a speed rusher. He doesn’t play that hard. He has a self-governor on. He is a really good player, but I don’t think he’s elite from what we saw and what I saw on tape.

ā€œYou’d see him out there at defensive end, and he’s gigantic. He’s freaky. He can bend around the corner, but if he was really a dude, you’d think he would’ve come out by now.ā€

I was about to mention him.
Big athletic dude who played all over the place, but I think he's best suited as 4-3 DE especially in Allens system.
Watch his replays, pretty frickin impressive.
I'm hoping they take him early day 2.

Yup, I was agreeing that Warren being a blue chip over Johnson doesn't necessarily mean you would select him over Warren. Positional value will trump that every year.

I’ve seen him play many times. Oregon is a program I watch regularly.

He definitely feels like an Allen DE.

I probably need more context. Sweat does his own offseason stuff too. I think he never comes to voluntary OTAs dating back to Washington. It's not the end of the world, but I guess I do agree that I'd rather he do stuff with the team. It's probably lowering his ceiling.
They’ve been saying ā€œcharacter issuesā€ with him for months now. Regardless of what they are, we all know the Bears only draft Boy Scouts.

If stuff like this is true you can sadly cross him off the Bears list

Feels like a guy kc or Philly will take late if he really falls to them in 1. It also feels like Philly might do some serious dirty work trashing really good players anonymously to get them at their pick annually.

I'd much prefer burch or almost any of the 2nd/3rd round edges to mykel/shemar. I can't imagine burch going before the Bears pick at 39 either. The edge I really want is green because he's probably the best pass rusher in the draft but the bears will never take him

Who knew that a name change bet would have such an incredible residual value!

Was gonna say, didn’t a lot of guys want him gone? I don’t get all the cunting over someone and then the tags trying to get him back.

I didn't realize he shed weight... I had him as a hopeful sleeper option in the 3rd. He was a 5 star out of HS and was athletic enough to be able to also play college basketball if he wanted. Due to his size, I was almost thinking he would add a little weight and become a freak 3T. He's an intriguing prospect for sure.

The key to a better response to your thread would have been to type a paragraph of two why you think Warren would be a great asset for BJ and the Bears. Just posting an image of it with no commentary is akin to a preschooler fingering painting a POS, shoving it in your face and walking away. No one gives a shit about your water colors, sport.

I say that as a fellow man who was Sportin' an Orton' in 2005/2006 as well.
I'll take the critique, I won't be so lazy next go around
