But wait, I just read you don't give up on guys you just drafted and DTs take 3-4 years to develop.

BTW, I completely agree with you.
Well he’s not wrong but Pickens has no hope. Poles just whiffed on him.

There are very few jobs on this team that should be considered to be safe and not worthy of competition.

It's apples to oranges, but look at those Giants championship teams. In 2007, they drafted Mathias Kiwanuka in the first round with Strahan, Osi, and Tuck on the roster. In 2010, they took Pierre-Paul in the first round in with Tuck, Osi, and Kiwanuka on the roster. They won the SB in the 2007 season and the 2011 season. Everyone would otherwise think it's pretty nuts to need 4 DEs, but those defensive lines were the foundation to something special there.

The Rams selected Aaron Donald even though they appeared to be set at DT at the time.

Grady’s snaps will do down as Atlanta had nobody else on that line and Dexter missed time, 2.5 games. He actually played 67% of the snaps and would easily be over 70% if he didn’t miss any games. If they go DT at #10, I’m guessing that the rookie will play about 45% - 50% of the snaps especially considering they might have Dexter at DE a handful of snaps. Billings is probably gone after 2025, so his snap counts will be going down

Plus G.Jarrett and G.Dexter will be getting snaps at 3 different positions more than likely at 3T, 1T and even some at DE.

DT would make sense, since jarret and dexter can play DE on at times.

De would probably make more sense, but a guy like mason graham would be a home run at #10. Him and dexter next to each other would make a great duo for the next few years
Besides both of them have a natural position which is the same at 3T. They would absolutely play some together just like G.Jarrett and G.Dexter will but seems like the bigger need at IDL is at the 1T to replace Billings after next year.

I just want them to draft football players who can be immediate contributors. Shemar Stewart's RAS score is amazing, but his production in college was low. I don't watch enough A&M to know the context behind it, but I'll take the lower RAS score for a guy who produced in college over that.

I also don't want to go to those teams and glad they're not considering me in top 3.
Kid is on the next level mind game wise, total reverse psychology. I don't blame him and he probably doesn't have to worry.

So this is the year we can expect Pickens to become a valuable member of the rotation?

Not pickens, he's clearly a bust, but guys like stevenson, dexter, gordon, brisker, Wright, Odunze, etc should all be expected to make jumps this year.

Is there any pick who people would be more upset with than him? This seems like the pick that would unify the fan base, in a bad way.
Ive been saying this since the combine when Stewart starting getting all the Danielle Hunter comps. He is elite NFL size and athleticism but has 0 technique. And while that perhaps can be fixed, its a giant red flag to me that he's had 3 years of college ball and still looks like its his first year playing the sport. Maybe Texas A&Ms coaching staff are god awful but 3 years is a lot of time to make 0 improvements to your game. Not every athlete is able to make the jump to being a football player, even with time and effort - there is a mental hurdle that not every mind is able to overcome and Stewart to me is a giant red flag. If he was like a Nigerian import who just started playing football at 18 I think I could get passed those concerns - but Shemar been playing ball since he was 8.

Switching topics, as far as DT in the first, I personally like that path a lot especially if it can be paired with a trade down. I know there are posters on here who have already made up there minds and arent open to changing them, and thats OK you cant save every soul. But PHI is not a good example of why drafting a DT at 10 is a bad idea, here is their DT rotation in '23 after they drafted Carter at 10 - a lot of similarities with the Bears roster in that they had an aging veteran DT, a promising young 3T on a rookie contract in his 3rd year, and a NT already on the roster:

You dont need to get guys snaps just to hit a number, unless you have a superstar at the position or absolutely no depth behind starters 50-60% snaps keeps legs fresh so youre getting higher quality reps from each person in the rotation.

I think this is part of the pains in developing a big board. He probably needs to go to a team that doesn't need him to play right away. He can ideally learn behind great coaching and/or a superstar edge. Anything else is setting him up for failure. I think a lot of the teams in the 20s give him his best shot... maybe the Steelers being the ideal landing spot for him. The Hunter comp gives an obvious Vikings pairing as a good one too. I think Flores can leave sooner than later though and that would leave him in flux.

He’ll drop to Philly and become a 15 sack a year guy and hall of famer. Bears draft him and he’d look like Shea McClellan or whatever his name was.

From Finley at the Sun Times today…

He predicts the top ten.

“10. Bears — Penn State TE Tyler Warren

Yes, the Bears need help at left tackle — it’d be surprising if their plan is really to let Braxton Jones and Kiran Amegadjie fight it out, particularly because the former might not be fully recovered from ankle surgery until training camp. The fact remains, though, that the Bears think there are fewer than 10 top-tier players in the draft. If one makes it to No. 10, the Bears have to take him. If they draft Warren, they could worry about drafting an offensive lineman and running back with one of their two Round 2 picks.

Part of what drew the Bears to coach Ben Johnson was the creativity he showed in creating not only a playbook but also clever personnel usage. The fact that the Bears already have Cole Kmet as an in-line tight end will only encourage Johnson to move Warren around the field, and that’s a good thing. Warren played all over in Happy Valley, even taking 40 snaps as a Wildcat quarterback.

With the Lions last year, Johnson used two or more tight ends on the field 35% of the time, the third-most in the NFL. Having two capable tight ends isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.”

RAS + EPA = SB. 🏆

Why is Billings gone? are we presuming he isn't going to play well after injury or something? He's the best player on the DL
He’ll be 31 and I think they go in a different direction. We don’t know how he’ll come back after this injury too.

He'll be here this year but quite likely he'll be gone after that. Add in old man Grady and DT is a sneaky big need for us.
