If they dont take an OT at #10 and take someone like jackson, I'd anticipate the "break glass if needed" plan at LT is Joe Thuney while putting the rookie at LG.
That does sound like a better idea.

I don’t think it’s worth burning that extra pick but I could see them possibly doing it if Hampton snuck past the Broncos.

Although, I can’t see how Hampton could get past Harbaugh. They need a RB in the worst way.
I wasn't a big fan of Najee Harris in Pitt but i think he's gonna be much better running behind that OL in a Greg Roman offense.

Yeah cause everyone saw how well that worked for the Chiefs in this year's Superbowl.

Worked pretty well until they faced the best DL/defense in football

Or would you rather start a rookie who wasnt good enough to be a left tackle in college at the position?

As noted that would be the 3rd tackle if braxton is not playing well and kiran sucks

These talks reminded me of this. Both are under 80” wingspan too. Lots of similarities. Take what you will from it, or take nothing from it.

What are our options if we don't get a LT early in the draft and B.Jones needs to miss 2, 3, 4 games because his foot isn't quite ready?

I guess as of now it would be Kiren or Thuney. I guess we could sign veteran LT real cheap that's still sitting out there like DJ Humphries.

If his foot isnt ready by the season then he shouldnt be starting.

I see zero way an ankle break takes 8 months to heal. I'm sure the bears know if he's on the proper timeline, if not LT should 100% be the pick at #10

Yes i understand all of this, i was simply asking what our options would be if we don't draft someone who could play LT with any of our early picks? Are you throwing Kiran in there and hoping for the best? Are you moving Thuney to LT and replacing him with Bates or Murray until Jones is ready? Or are you going to free agency to sign a guy like DJ Humphries who has plenty of experience at LT or another T in free agency?

This is a stupid debate.

Any tackle taken in the first round puts up "elite stats" in college, otherwise they wouldnt be drafted there.

That does not mean he has the physical tools to be a good tackle in the NFL.

I'm not an expert or anything, but if you are taken in the first few rounds of the NFL draft you were pretty much an "elite" college level player, but the majority of them fail in the NFL

More than likely this.

Even if they dont take a tackle at #10 they likely take an OL(Guard or OT) in the 2nd or at #72. Jackson would be perfect at #39 but he likely wont be there.

Yeah i think he's definitely the first option and just put D.Smythe over on the left side to help him and don't have Caleb running that way.

If you take a RB in the 3rd, no doubt he’d be instant impact and may be RB1 by end of year, if not right away.
Not if you choose the wrong RB. I get that it’s a deep class, but not all of these projected starters are actually going to pan out. I think a lot of people have this idea that there’s like 10+ starting caliber RBs but I’d be surprised if that’s what actually ends up happening.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a deep class with some nice and talented RBs, but probably only about 4-7 actual plus caliber that you can rely on.

After bringing in Dalman, Jackson, and Thuney it would be brutal to leave a potential hole at LT.

It makes so much sense from a football and a cap management standpoint to draft a LT.
I agree and there are very good reasons to take a LT at #10. The uncertainty of the position leading up to draft day. If Banks truly is the #3 LT in this draft as many have stated he is well worth the high pick. The talent level in this draft has very few true blue chip players and unless the Bears are very lucky that player won't drop to #10, so we will get a very good player but not necessarily blue chip talent. This is a draft where the Bears can fill most of their needs with LT, RB, DL, Edge or Safety with those first four picks.

Many here will disagree with this but.................we are not making this tough call, Poles/Johnson are.

Yea…
There’s more, and it’s not great for Banks.
