I wonder what Thibodeaux costs. I honestly haven't paid attention to him much other than him having a good rookie or 2nd year, so not sure if he's going to command a premium return in draft value.

He only played 12 games last year. He had 11.5 sacks in ‘23.

If this were the case no one would ever trade up.....

I should have said in almost any scenario. I’m also more basing that opinion off your “You’d rather have less picks this draft“ statement. I get what you’re saying, but there are a lot variables and just on the surface seems like kind of a crazy thing to say. All drafts are different and the talent is spread differently so it just seems like a blanket statement when there’s more nuance to it.

Kind of going off on a tangent here, but people get too focused on rounds. Like there’s this magical drop that happens between 33 and 32. That’s the extreme example, but people do it to a lesser extent all the time. Rounds are meaningless. It’s the pick number that matters. People have this psychological thing with rounds.

There is not that big of a difference in how we look at pick 22 and pick 30. Of course there is some. It’s 8 spots. But now imagine there are only 22 teams. And know I can say one is a first round pick and one is a middle second round pick. That psychologically changes your expectation and projection for those players the way them both being late firsts doesn’t. People do that all the time.

I pointed this out before, but... yea... Jeanty absolutely should not go 5 overall. In fact, I think he'd have the 2nd highest guaranteed money behind Saquon. It's just absolutely terrible resource management. If a team does this, the guy better be Barry Sanders and he better be the Barry Sanders that wins playoff games.
Could you name 5 other running backs in the NFL right now that you'd rather have over Jeanty though? Barkley is the only slam dunk probably. Henry is getting way up there on age and miles. CMC has always had injury issues. Gibbs is dynamic but you question his ability to shoulder the load. Others in the conversation would be who? ...Bijan Robinson, James Cook, Bucky Irving, Jonathan Taylor, Josh Jacobs? The list isn't very long.

That said, that's not me advocating for trading up for him. Please for the love of god don't do that Poles. There's too much RB value available later.

But people here can’t stand not having them in any particular thread.

Not me. That’s why this thread is marked Bear Fans Only. I can’t stand either of them.

My thread on Poles had the same designation.

It truly improves the dialogue excluding them.

Let's say Jeanty does NOT go 5 or 6 and the Bears are remaining patient. Once he makes it past LVR, do we trade up to secure him or do we feel like 7-9 wouldn't take him there? NYJ (Hall/Allen), CAR (Chuba), NOS (Kamara/Miller). LVR will certainly take a RB (Mostert can't be their man) but will they take him at #5?

Not advocating for Jeanty necessarily, but I would hope Poles learned his lesson last year and just let the draft come to you. Odunze fell right into his lap after Cunningham supposedly talked him off the ledge of trading up for him.

Schefter listed the following players – 13 on rookie deals and six veterans – as ones who could be traded ahead of or during the draft this weekend:

Will Levis, QB, Titans
Treylon Burks, WR, Titans
Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, Giants
Evan Neal, OL, Giants
Jalin Hyatt, WR, Giants
Sam Howell, QB, Seahawks
Tyree Wilson, Edge, Raiders
Greg Newsome II, CB, Browns
Travis Etienne Jr., RB, Jaguars
Odafe Oweh, Edge, Ravens
George Pickens, WR, Steelers
Rachaad White, RB, Bucs
Kayshon Boutte, WR, Patriots
Jalen Ramsey, CB, Dolphins
Jaire Alexander, CB, Packers
Kirk Cousins, QB, Falcons
Dallas Goedert, TE, Eagles
Mark Andrews, TE, Ravens
Trey Hendrickson, Edge, Bengals

i know, i know...homer time....but, if im the bears and i can buy low on Jalin Hyatt...i consider it

adding that speed in the slot and getting plus matchups deep down field thanks to teams focusing on DJ and Rome, seems beneficial to me. dunno what it takes, but id wager a 6th or 7th round pick used to trade for him would yield more value than whomstever they would draft in that spot

I've been looking for Braxton updates but have only seen the one where Ben says he is on schedule and might not be ready for the start of tc.
There was an interview with the OL coach where he said his injury was a set back but that got pulled from YouTube

That's the wrong question. The point is you're overpaying a rookie relative to his peers. I rather draft the 35-45th paid OT than the 6th RB. You want to hit on a player and have the "rookie window" to maximize a roster. Guys like JJ and Chase were top WRs in the league, being paid a fraction of the top WRs... guys like Nabers, BTJ, and Rome can be that too. With Jeanty, he BETTER be a top 5 back or you not only wasted opportunity to save money, you wasted opportunity for a premium position. I would rather save a ton at a premium position and pay market value for a back, even if that back is not as good as Jeanty. Further, it just so happens that I can pay even less and have a great rookie back by taking one in the 2nd or 3rd. The cost to say I have a top 5 guy that people would want to have is not worth it at pick 5/6. I can have a top 10 back and top 15 LT instead of a top 5 back and no LT at all. And, another question is how long do you expect Jeanty will be top 5 on that theoretical list?

This is all easy to see and why teams have gone away from RBs. People seem to think that Jeanty is the only RB to be considered to be a stud coming out. Just like two decades ago, the Bears took Benson in a loaded class with Ronnie Brown and Cadillac. It was like two decades ago that Reggie Bush was supposed to change the game. He was supposed to be the greatest thing the NFL would ever see. McFadden was a rockstar... Trent Richardson? Jeanty isn't the first guy to have a lot of success, and hype. He won't be the last either.

Right now, this is a great scenario for me.

10. Banks Jr.
39. Williams DT (I think Grant is gone)
41. JT OSU DE - might be high but I like him. I like Burch too.
72. Mukuba
Round 5 - RJ Harvey
