I've seen posters here comp him to Chandler Jones.
Same size and college production.
Difference is, Jones was selected 21st.
Teams want more pass rush ability at 10, not an edge setter.
I think this is an interesting graphic to look at to see how bad of pass rushers Williams and Stewart are. Neither should be the pick at 10 imo.

The problem is that, for that very reason, other teams will be much less likely to give up that kind of draft capital. Everyone is going to see it the same way unless there's someone particularly special available at 10. The only type of player who can really move the needle like that is probably a QB.
Maybe the Cowboys get an itch for Jeanty if here's there, or some team convinces themselves that they need to move up to #10 to secure Dart. But yea, you're right.

Right but what I'm saying is 1/4 of an inch won't make a difference. Speed of the rush, your jump off the hike, foot placement, weather, the move that's coming against you—I can't believe that 1/4 of an inch matter. I have a hard time believing a full inch matter. This isn't a guy at 6'6" holding the head of a 5'8" guy in his hand with the little dude swinging his arms unable to touch him.

Now Will Campbell is 6'5" (78 inches) so that means his arm span is probably the same. Looked it up, he's 77.18 inch wingspan. So he's .72 short of his wingspan being the same as his height. I'd be more concerned with him at 6'5" facing a guy who is taller, but who in the hell on the DE is going to be 6'6" or taller? I don't see anyone in this draft taller than Campbell. So just based on wingspan, most of the DEs he facing are going to be shorter or the same:

Carter 6'3"
Mykel 6'5"
Green 6'3"
Shemar 6'5"
Pearce 6'5"
Scourton 6'3"

So I'm not worried about Campbell. Now, if your LT was 6'2" I might be worried about those three inches, or if somebody has a freakishly long wingspan (tried to find numbers but couldn't).
Is that accurate? My quick Google search gives membou an 81inch wingspan, seems like a sizeable difference if true. I have seen arm length cited by many for other prospects but idk how NFL starting tackles size up as far as wingspan.

Those are the exact names I thought about as I was writing. Hard to say what's what though.

Worst than just his arm length, Campbell's wingspan makes it even worse. Both are below average. Not confident the statements below are 100% accurate, but the data appears solid.

fairly serviceable albeit short list of t-rex tackles.
You can really add Rashawn Slater to that list as well and he's the only one ranked as high as Campbell coming out.
I know DJ mocked him there too.
I wonder if Roushar/BJ could persuade Poles to deviate from his love of long armed OT's?
I feel like BJ is gonna get who he wants. If he felt strongly about a player, Poles would pull the trigger. Ultimately, Poles role is to get BJ the players he feels fits his vision.

There is merit to it, though. If a defensive lineman gets into the chest of a Tackle too easily, that's very bad. A lot of that has to do with a motherfucker's T-Rex arms. 😜

I'm in the camp of, "Short arms bad, but if you're sure about the guy, take him." But if it turns out that he can't play Tackle, and Kelvin Banks can(even though his arms are considered short, too lol), that's a pretty big ****-up. 🤷‍♂️
I'm arms bad but then there's players that are just special that has so much talent in every other part of their game that they know how to overcome that one bad thing and i think that's Campbell. Now i'm also just a fan sitting behind a computer and while i also know it's impossible for even the GM's, Coaches and Scouts to 100% know, they better think they know and would be nice if everyone in the building feels the same way, or at least the GM, Ass. GM, HC and OL Coach.

It’s not poles love of long arm OT’s, these are percentages of the entire NFL. Even skater I’ve seen listed from 80.25-82 inch wingspan.

Will Campbell might make it in the NFL as a tackle, but if he did he would be an outlier even among outliers.

The odds are not in his favor

The exact same shit was said about skoronski and he’s playing guard. The titans have a bad OL and they don’t have him playing tackle

That's kinda what I'm saying. They better KNOW he's special, because if he's not, and then he ends up playing guard, people are gonna be talking about his arms forever. Lol.

Yea, but linemen on both sides of the ball can be slower to develop and make impact. A year sitting and developing isn't the end of the world. If you're forced to start a rookie LT, that rookie LT will likely be getting beat up unless he's a very elite talent.

I think this is a bit too much impatience to worry about just one year of sitting. We know we're likely going to need a LT next year. We know we're going to need to replace Thuney soon too. Taking a guy to develop for a year and step in and able to hit the ground running next year is important. Otherwise, we're going to be desperate to draft one next year and may need to really reach or even trade up to grab one who will actually be able to be effective immediately. To add to this, we know that our OL isn't the epitome of health and reliability historically. Ultimately, what we need to be sure is we pick the guy who will be a high level player for a longer time. If the guy starts sooner, but ultimately sucks, then the pick was a fail.
I get it and am also down with going with one of the 3 (Campbell, Membou, Banks) but i do hate the idea of the chance that our #10 pick could end up sitting a full year. I know there's most likely going to be an injury even if it's only for a game or three but sure would be nice having a pass rusher who we know will be running plays every game and then hoping someone like Conerly or Erserly or Cam Williams and maybe even Josh Simmons if teams are really scared off by how serious of an injury he's coming off of at #39 or #41.

Doesn't mean he can't play there though. Didn't they draft JC Latham to play LT like 1 or 2 years ago? Think they did.

Meh, 22 games in the ivy league and a serious injury and wasn’t suppose to play a game year 1, hard pass in the 3rd when we needed day 1 impact. He was over drafted for our roster, but I understand his measurables.
Bro you ain’t gonna find day 1 impact in the 3rd round 99% of the time. You can find useful players in the 3rd on day 1 but 99% ain’t making the impact you are looking for in their rookie season.

Yup, it’s not ideal. It’s not unlike a QB sitting though. I think we’re in a spot where we actually have decent starters across the board, so it’s not easy for a rookie to come in and just start. The other factor is it seems to be a fairly mediocre draft. Guys who would start likely won’t fall to 10, but Membou is one I’d imagine would win the spot outright (though I don’t expect him to make it to 10 anymore). For what it’s worth, I’m actually not very convinced Braxton would hold off any other LT selected at 10.

Another group that would probably get significant playtime is LB, but it’s like RB in that no one wants to see us pick one at 10.

I think this is a list of guys I could give at least some decent chance of being drafted by the Bears at 10:
  • Jeanty
  • Hampton
  • Membou
  • Will Campbell
  • Banks Jr.
  • Simmons
  • Warren
  • Booker
  • Mason
  • Grant
  • Stewart
  • Mykel
  • Pearce
  • Green
  • Jihaad
  • Jalon Walker
  • Will Johnson
Of those names, I think only the RBs, LBs, and Will Johnson would really be able to lead their position in snaps besides Membou and Mason, who I expect to be off the board. Warren may steal the lead from Kmet too. All the DL guys would likely get good snaps in rotation, but all are high risk or not exactly Dennis Allen fits (besides Mason). So really, I kind of expect there’s a good chance that whoever we draft will come in as a bench guy and maybe win a starting role by end of season, at best.

All things considered, I do think RB is a very high likelihood with the pick, which would solve the playing time concern. Ben values the position too much and I’m not sure he’d want to gamble on what’s left later in the draft. And I don’t disagree with taking one in the 2nd, I’m only saying they can’t completely eliminate the possibility of taking one at 10.
