My take on Kiran is they want to see what they have. Is he a starter, a rotating depth piece, or garbage. Put him in with the 1s as Ozzy starts to learn the playbook. I expect shortly we'll see Ozzy move up with the 1s, assuming Kiran isn't AMAZING. Jones is still hurt, recovering, and we basically know what we have in him. They may decide to keep all three for quality depth. But I expect Ozzy to take this job and be LT as the start of the season.
Could be but they all needed to learn the new playbook and work on their technique with new coaches.

I am ”all aboard” the Ozzy train as well and they didn’t select him at 56 to sit very long.

I don’t think they will move Wright to LT either and it's going to be very interesting to see how the OT situation shakes out if Braxton takes longer to return.
At that point, you may as well call it the Crazy Train in regards to Ozzy.

Rookie camp observations turn up positive Bears surprises

@msadows

@run and shoot says Chamberlain can't have an acceptable opinion because he didn't play ball.

Nice to see some working links.

Please do not twist and deflect to something else.
I want you to copy & paste where I said this about Chamberlain.
I'll be back to check.

I think they’re giving him every chance at winning the LT spot. I believe Kiran was granted a courtesy to start out with the 1s because he’s a second year player. Now he’ll have to perform.

I don’t think they’re moving Wright to LT.

The absolute best case scenario would involve both Kiran and Ozzy having the chops to hold down the LT spot.

I have nothing against Jones, but his timeline is fuzzy and it will be tough to pay him next offseason.

Wright at LT would be interesting and that move would favor Ozzy 100 percent to start on the right side. I just think Wright is about to take another positive step at RT and I don’t want a position change to stunt his growth.
Kiran is the most puzzling player on this roster. Amazing measurables, raw talent that can be molded, obviously a smart guy given where he went to college, and yet you can't help but think the last coaching staff fucked him over. You and @Canth make some good points about Poles/coaching staff preference as to who is at LT, but the way I read it is that they really want to move either Jones or Kiran before they bring in Ozzy.

I agree since the RBs taken in 7 had similar grades to those in in 4 once Skattebo was gone. The LB apparently was rising up boards after his late pro day. If they have the right role for him, he's the better pick and you have to suspect they do considering the circumstances of releasing Sanborn and drafting the fastest LBs in that draft.

He’s referencing Luther Burden III, not Rueben.

* Sorry, before they give Ozzy starting reps at LT (should be the LT).

I definitely can see what attracted them to Kiran too. He should not have played last year and I do believe their initial plan was to redshirt him. However, they started with an average group and then were ravaged by injuries. They had to play him.

It’s crazy how many Bear fans just don’t understand some players take time to develop. Because he struggled against the Vikings, of course, he’s a “bust.”

Ideally, he and Ozzy have a legitimate competition that leads to both of them proving they’re capable of stepping up and taking that spot.

I believe Kiran has the potential to be a steal and agree he was probably mishandled by the previous staff. I watched all his reps in the Washington game and they weren’t giving him much help. I’ll have to take another look. I want to check out his road game at Minnesota too.

I’ll bet Roushar took one look at him and said “yes, I can make this work!”

This isn't a knock against either player, but do you think if Jones didn't go down with a leg injury last season that they would have drafted Ozzy?

That’s a good question and I think the answer depends on if they think Jones is worth an expensive second contract.

Plus, it’s tough to pass on premium positions if they sit at the top of the draft board.

The Bears need quality depth wherever they can find it. OTs are expensive, so it’s a great place to stack some talent.

That's kind of where I'm at as well. Braxton Jones reminds me of Charles Leno so much: late round overachieving pick that is in the middle of the pack, but (probably) won't be that elite LT you give a big second contract. Maybe they're playing the comp pick game with Jones.*

* I'm on record as saying that compensatory picks are fucking stupid, but as long as allowed I don't see why you don't try and play that game.

It's too bad the Bears had to use Amegadjie at all last season, he simply was not ready. Glad to see he is now healthy and ready to compete. Amegadjie, Trapilo, Jones when healthy should be great competition for the starting LT. Let the best player win.

With the injuries the Bears OL has had the last few seasons they may need all of them.

Thanks. Got it. Not relevant to his post but I still prefer that they got a position player like our projected LB #3 in the 4th once the last of the formidable RBs came off. No idea if it was the right choice but filled a need.

Jones has one more cheap year after this. I suspect they'd like him playing well again by the end of the year for some value. I doubt they plan to resign him in 2027 with the funds that would involve and 2 good prospects in the wings so trading him after this year could be a desire/plan.

I'm holding out a sliver of hope for Kiran. For a myriad of well-reported reasons last year, he did not look like a legitimate option on the offensive line, particularly at left tackle.

Jones is a free agent after this season.

Actually the NFL community was pretty high on his potential. He didn’t get any training camp reps and was recovering from an injury.

Suggesting at this point, “he did not like a legitimate option on the offensive line” seems pretty rash.

Check this out.

I hear what you're saying and I too want him to succeed. I am just not yet convinced. With full recognition and acknowledgement that he missed games, had no off-season, and was indoctrinated by fire, I stick by my assessment until he proves otherwise, which I would love to see him do.

They literally could’ve played borom but instead they rushed back kiran and he immediately got injured. Terrible roster management

According to remydat there was no way they could play borom because "he's so bad"

Much better idea to play a rookie who had barely practiced

The fact they had borom as a healthy scratch for that minny game is pathetic management. What was their plan if the rookie looks like shit(which he did)?
