now look at all the trash pace drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds like trubisky, fields, shaheen, Kevin White, Tev Jenkins.

So now we are judging GM's not by the picks they should be making properly, but getting lucky and hitting the lottery in later rounds? Poles has drafted a good starter in every one of his 1st and 2nd round picks thus far in his first 3 years. Maybe some of those players will grow to become star players eventually. Thats pretty impressive.

All those players you listed outside of amos and eddie jackson kind of sucked too. Braxton Jones is better than all of them and was a 5th rounder.

Again, keenan allen was basically the only coach caleb had. You'd rather have another dominique robinson over a guy who could help develop your potential franchise QB? Dumb as shit thought process.

Very very rarely, as i pointed out. Or do you think 7% hit rate for starters is "good"

like 10 3+ year starters out of 150 players is not a good hit ratio.

Keenan Allen was 100% worth it, thinking its not and bitching about it is stupid. His help in developing caleb is more important than drafting a scrub backup who will be one of the bottom guys on the roster

My take on Kiran is they want to see what they have. Is he a starter, a rotating depth piece, or garbage. Put him in with the 1s as Ozzy starts to learn the playbook. I expect shortly we'll see Ozzy move up with the 1s, assuming Kiran isn't AMAZING. Jones is still hurt, recovering, and we basically know what we have in him. They may decide to keep all three for quality depth. But I expect Ozzy to take this job and be LT as the start of the season.

Trust me when I say I was not a fan of Pace but I just used a few of his examples. It was not to compare Pace to Poles.

The point I was trying to make was in regard to throwing away a pick for a year rental when you are a shitty team. You actually showed players and reasons why using that draft pick would be better than in essence throwing it away. I would rather have the punter with that pick versus having nobody after the year of the 1 year rental.

The cap has increased so much in recent years that it's made it generally easier for teams to keep a hold of their good pending free agents meaning the free agency has a lot less options to find impact starters.

Easily the 2 worst trades were the Claypool trade and the Bates trade. I really don't understand the fixation that Poles had for Bates. And some day, teams will learn to never trade with Pittsburgh especially at WR.

I hope that Poles has learned to not really do the in-season trades, at least in terms of trying acquire players now. It always felt a little weird to me to do that when the Bears were nowhere near any sort of playoff run. They were not 1 player away from anything at those points in time. Sweat at least is still on the team and can be a solid starter.

This is actually really key. Look at all the projected FA's at midseason last year to who actually hit FA. The majority of good players just remained with their teams.

They still needed competition at the tackle position no matter who it is. Braxton may not be healthy and is likely gone next year

You have been on the Kiran train for a while. I’m not saying Poles should give up on him, but you don’t draft a second round OT if you are comfortable with Kiran. Drafting a second round OT says the exact opposite.

I think they’re giving him every chance at winning the LT spot. I believe Kiran was granted a courtesy to start out with the 1s because he’s a second year player. Now he’ll have to perform.

I don’t think they’re moving Wright to LT.

The absolute best case scenario would involve both Kiran and Ozzy having the chops to hold down the LT spot.

I have nothing against Jones, but his timeline is fuzzy and it will be tough to pay him next offseason.

Wright at LT would be interesting and that move would favor Ozzy 100 percent to start on the right side. I just think Wright is about to take another positive step at RT and I don’t want a position change to stunt his growth.

Yeah, I agree. I absolutely think they want Ozzy to step up and win that LT spot. And he will be greatly helped by having Thuney next to him at LG and that you have TE's able to help block.

As I have stated before, IMHO, bad teams (see Bears) should not throw away draft picks on one year rentals. That is what good teams do that are competing for a Super Bowl. I guess I could buy into a 6th or 7th though. Allen was so good that no teams have lined up to sign him. They could have gotten similar production from a FA. It turns out with them drafting Odunze, the wasted draft pick was even more wasted.

Then again, our GM has sucked terribly after the 2nd round and probably would have used the 4th on a punter or a kicker or maybe even a long snapper.

Well, you don’t have the luxury of knowing what you’ll be able to pick up in the draft prior to the draft. They took the approach that they were going to be drafting a rookie quarterback, and they wanted to guarantee that he had some weapons in order to help his development. It’s the exact thing fans were begging for and criticizing the bears for not doing when they had Justin Fields.

So you simultaneously are all worked up about a fourth round pick while saying that they’d wasted anyway which is kind of weird.

I don’t think they would generally be picking up wide receivers at the end of their career for one year rentals if it wasn’t for the fact that they were going to have a rookie quarterback and they wanted to make sure to give him some weapons.

But it’s odd that people get so upset giving away using a fourth round pick to acquire a player, but they don’t give polls any credit when he regained that pic with trades during the draft.

I am ”all aboard” the Ozzy train as well and they didn’t select him at 56 to sit very long.

It’s understandable with his attitude, work ethic, intelligence, and physical attributes how they were comfortable bringing him in to potentially fill a huge position on this team.

Playing for an ex NFL coach didn’t hurt his profile.

The Bears stated they loved his toughness and dependability too.

and you wouldn't think they selected him to replace Wright so logically it only makes sense that they brought him in to battle with Kiran to play LT either this year or most likely 2026.

Anyway it shakes out, they at least have significantly increased their OT depth for 2025.

Darnell Wright was a much better RT than LT in college. The logic of moving him to a worse position to accommodate a 2nd round draft pick seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't really believe they are serious about moving him. Trapilo is either going to be a LT or a backup swing tackle as long as Wright is here.

I believe the Wright to LT talk was predraft subterfuge.

I am one of the few people that prefered to get LB3 over a running back.

I know a running back is the flavor of the month with the NFL right now, but I believe our current roster of RBs will be much better with decent blocking.

I think LB3 is going to be a playmaker in the NFL. Really looking forward to seeing him work.

I agree since the RBs taken in 7 had similar grades to those in in 4 once Skattebo was gone. The LB apparently was rising up boards after his late pro day. If they have the right role for him, he's the better pick and you have to suspect they do considering the circumstances of releasing Sanborn and drafting the fastest LBs in that draft.

Of course Kiran is going to be with the 1st team with Jones still recovering. That is no surprise. Do you think the Bears would have drafted Ozzie in the second round if they felt Kiran was the for sure answer?

He can play anywhere but C so maybe but I'm sure LT insurance was part of it. If Wright goes down and Jones is still on IR, we'd be pretty screwed without another hopefully viable T. You rarely get through a season without a couple of OL dings.
