Edmonton. He could actually get a shot at the big club up there!

Got a twitter update from the Icehogs today saying that a number of signings will be announced over the next few weeks and that the tweets will be 24 hours ahead of the website announcement. I'm excited because the Icehogs could really be a hot spot for the high end AHL talent this year with the spots available on the Blackhawks. I'm hoping that the team has re-signed Cullen and we get some nice vets to go with all of the young talent that the organization has.

I am hoping for this as well.

My next question: who lands with the team to protect these guys so they may continue to develop? Please keep us updated. :D

Well, if you are talking physical presence, we signed Brookbank so that should create some room for sure and the Hogs signed a guy named Kyle Hagel who played a handful of games with the team last year. He can skate a little and REALLY doesn't mind dropping 'em. I don't think it's out of the question for John Scott to see some time down on the farm either. I think Bill Peters and Mark Bernard are actually looking to be a bit more physical this year than they have been the past 2 which I don't have a problem with. I think the structure of the organization with Peters, Ted Dent, and Bernard is pretty solid. Bill Peters takes a lot of crap but I think he has done a nice job of developing players as well as getting the team to the playoffs 2 years in a row with somewhat suspect talent in certain areas (particularly 2 seasons ago). I'm going to avoid thinking about what has happened in the playoffs the last two years though.

Aye, I mean both a share of physical presence and protection. I don't want to see development stunted because of opponents are being cheap knowing full well retribution is nonexistent.

Yeah, I saw BB at 6'4" 225. This is good as long as he doesn't suffer from Dazeitis.

Guys been a bruiser that doesn't score much for his whole career. He's put up over 200 PIMs in the "A" before and was well over 100 last year. If you put up those kind of numbers and arn't cracking some skulls and taking some majors you won't be in any league for very long, unless your name is Danny Carcillo for some reason :)

The Icehogs have picked up Hugh Jessiman, formerly of the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators). Jessiman is a 6'6" Right Wing that was taken in the first round in the 2003 draft by the Rangers. Last season with the Admirals, Jessiman had 20g 22a 111PIMs. If I remember right, he was also served as the teams captain. THis is a nice pickup for the organization just in terms of the AHL level. He provides size, scoring, toughness, and some leadership. Ironically though, he is the only 2003 first rounder to never play an NHL game.

This spurned me to take a peek at that 2003 draft to see where he landed (sandwiched between Jeff Carter and Dustin Brown). Just take a gander at that first round; there's a lot of decent to very good players in that first round.

That draft was pretty fantastic from top to bottom. I'm not really sure what is keeping him in the AHL but he is a really nice player at that level. My guess is his speed just isn't up to snuff hurting his D at the NHL level.

All about that! THe D in Rockford is super young if you don't count Cullimore, which should make for some interesting hockey. He'll have a shot at the Big club and he better be turning 20 by early September or he can't play in the AHL and can't go back to College but I assume they thought that situation through already.

Storm, you going to give us some recaps during the season with like what players are impressing you, and how the boys on the farm are playing?

I won't be at quite as many games as last season but I'll probably get to over half and watch the others on TV so I'll be all over it.

I've caught a few free streams of them...I forget where but I imagine I'll find 'em again come the start of the season.
