The organization has signed former Blackhawks defenseman Steve Poapst as an assistant with the Icehogs. Poapst will be joining head coach Bill Peters and assistant coach Ted Dent behind the bench.

Poapst played for the Hawks from 2000-2004. Since hanging up the skates, Poapst has been coaching the Chicago Steel of the USHL. The Steel went 87-79-14 in Poapst's 3 seasons with the team.

I'm not totally sure what this means beyond having another assistant, but he may have signed to help develop the wealth of young defenseman in the system. It also may help develop coaching talent within the system to counteract future losses of choaching staff due to promotion outside of the organization that inevitably comes with success.

Icehogs beat me to it but I figured i'd save you guys a link LOL. The list of games is also a good batch of games. I'd throw games against the Peoria Rivermen on that list. They tend to get nasty. I'm not sure what their team will look like this season. It's nice that there are close natural rivals that get a good workup. The Griffins are Detroits farm team but the heat just isn't quite what it should be IMO. That may be because we worked them last season.

The Icehogs have teamed with the Rockford Register Star to make the pre-season game on Sept. 28 against the Peoria Rivermen free. This happens from time to time but this is the first free pre-season game they have done. Many of the players will still be in Hawks camp but if you can make it down, it might be a fun way to spend a Tuesday evening. Tix for the Pre-season game against the Chicago Wolves are 5 bucks. I believe that the teams also have a pre-season meeting in Chicago.

9/21/2010 2:16 PM -
Rockford, Ill.-- A trio of bobblehead nights highlight the 2010-11 Rockford IceHogs promotions calendar.

The season kicks off with a fan festival starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 along Main Street between Elm and State streets. The event features food and drink samples from the Illinois Pork Producers and Pepsi along with activities for kids and a live band. The puck drops on the 2010-11 season at 4:35 p.m. against the Manitoba Moose at the Rockford MetroCentre, then after the game there’s an open skate on the ice while the Blackhawks’ ring ceremony plays on the video screen.

The first 5,000 fans on opening night will pick up a magnet schedule presented by the Illinois Pork Producers, U.S. Cellular, Guerilla Graffix, Dental Dimensions and WNTA 1330-AM.

Single-game tickets for all 40 games at the MetroCentre are on sale now. Ticket prices range from $10 to $25 and they can be purchased at the MetroCentre Box Office, on-line at metrocentre.com or by calling (815) 968-5222.

The first of the three bobbleheads (first 2,500 fans each) will be of the IceHogs all-time leading AHL scorer and 2010 AHL All-Star Jack Skille on Nov. 27 vs. Peoria presented by Dental Dimensions and WIFR. A bobblehead of Kyle Beach presented by Rockford Health System and WIFR will go to the first 2,500 fans on Jan. 8 vs. Grand Rapids.

Fans can vote between several options for the third bobblehead presented by U.S. Cellular, WIFR and 97 ZOK on March 19 vs. Peoria. The IceHogs will announce the three candidates before opening night.

Several popular giveaways will be returning this season including the baseball hat (Nov. 6 vs. Manitoba), winter scarf (Dec. 11 vs. Oklahoma City), fleece blanket (Feb. 5 vs. Abbotsford), youth jersey (Feb. 19 vs. Houston) and jersey bag (Feb. 26 vs. Milwaukee).

New additions to the promotions slate include the refrigerator schedule (Oct. 23 vs. Chicago) and dry erase board (March 26 vs. Milwaukee).

The Teddy Bear Toss is set for Dec. 11 vs. Oklahoma City and Pink in the Rink, a benefit for cancer research will be Jan. 22 vs. San Antonio. The annual jersey auction game is March 13 vs. Chicago. The Stanley Cup and three other National Hockey League trophies will be appearing at the MetroCentre on Oct. 10 vs. Grand Rapids.

All dates and quantities of the giveaways are subject to change. For more information, visit the IceHogs promotion schedule on icehogs.com or call the IceHogs front office at (815) 986-6465.

First pre-season game today. Looks like it's going to be camp invitees and a couple of guys signed to AHL contracts playing tonight. Other than Joe Palmer whom you may or may not remember from camp, the names are not going to be familiar or under contract with the Blackhawks. That being said, I couldn't care less and am just excited to get in the arena and see some live hockey.

Bollig, Pirri, and DiDominico all looked pretty solid in the first preseason game of the year for the Hogs. Not a whole bunch of guys played that I knew much about but those I am familiar with showed up. DiDominico in particular stood out with his passing and had a G and an A.

The Icehogs certainly will not have any trouble scoring goals to start the season. Might have to make the trip northwest to watch a few games this season, should be some fast exciting hockey. More than likely will have to watch them at the All State when they play the Wolves.

True, our D and goaltending will be the thing to worry about

I might be able to get some free tickets. I work at the Rockford Register Star, and they hook us up sometimes.
