So the Bears in 2023 need to replace:

Roquan Smith (FA)
Robert Quin (expiring contract)
Brain Pringle (1 year contract)
Reily Reif (1 year contract)
Michael Shofield (1 year contract)
David Montgomery

While also likely needing to extend Jaylon Johnson, Cole Kmet and Darnel Mooney

That 2023 Cap money is going to disappear faster than anyone on here imagines, and that is just to maintain the status quo of one of the worst rosters in the NFL.

We’ll see how this pans out in real games throughout the season.
I agree. Both Fields and Lance are big question marks. Both have been very inconsistent. It remains to be seen who will establish himself first. I would probably say Fields, except that Lance has a much better supporting cast. The first game of the season should be very interersting.

I mean not really.

There will always be a Pringle available in FA. Nothing special.

RBs are very replaceable. In fact we already have his replacement lol

Can alway find another Reiff. Again, there will always be an aging veteran available. Same with Schofield (who could be given a new contract on the cheap if he’s plays ok)

And Quinn will be a FA in 2025 dumbass.

It means it would become advantageous to release him, as his dead cap is now at a level that actually permits it. I didn't say he was a free agent now, did I?
So to your first post, Pringle, Reiff and Schofield are no FA?

Stupid.

We have 90 mil in cap space for 2023. That's 40-50 mil more than the next team behind us. Smith will likely be resigned once everything settles down. Letting Quinn go would free up more space. And all those other guys amount to under 10 mil in cap space and hopefully can be replaced by younger talent on their rookie deals (Teven Jenkins, Borom, Braxton Jones)

I'm optimistic we find some solid contributors this year and have plenty of money next offseason to fill in the gaps. We should be in a position where we have more money than we know what to do with.

Did you read what I said? ATTITUDE is just as important to this new regime as talent. Maybe more so. And Roquan currently has the exact wrong attitude.

Yes, he also needs to prove he is worth that contract IN THIS DEFENSE. How can he do that unless he’s actually on the field? There’s a TON you can tell from practices.
So will the Bears win the Attitudebowl or the Practicebowl this season? How big will the parade be?

ok, let's play.

Resigning Smith -20 mil

Extending Kmet/Johnson/Mooney -20 mil
(of course you could wait, and then have another smith situation on your hands next year)

Replace at least one O-lineman -10 mil
add one decent WR -12 mil
replace edge -12 mil
fill remaining roster -20 mil

And those are all ho-hum mid level signings

That would mean holding gut guys AND improve some holes and still having money to fill the roster.

How will Detroit improve?

This moron never heard of the draft. He thinks we have to fill every hole with a free agent
