Best damn talent coming out of Nashville, and barely anyone knows him. Honestly, I've seen many live acts and Will Hoge was up there as one of my top favorites. Absolutely fantastic.

Pretty deep and damn good song.

Zomg. The boss is not "punk"
Just read this.

Yes, he is. Springsteen in the late 70s was pretty damn punk if you know the punk movement. Or if you knew Springsteen was always hanging out at CBGB's in the late 70s. I read Bruces biography(which was aweosme if anyone wants to check it out), and he wasn't a happy dude. Really depressed, suicidual and angry about a lot of things. And it shows in his music. In the late 70s he was listening to a lot of Suicide, hanging out at punk bars and writing some pretty intense music.

Peoples every so fav punk band asked Springsteen to write a song for them(srs). He wrote Hungry Heart, and his manager told him to keep it. Yes, the famous punk band The Ramones asked Bruce Springsteen to WRITE a song for them.

Then it's been noted how much Lou Reed and Velvet Underground were Springsteen fans. The band would follow around Springsteen at bars for when he played, just to listen. It's not some weird fan fare, dude was fucking raw n awesome back in the day.

Oh, and then there is The Clash's Joe Strummer writing a letter about how much Springsteens music meant to him back in '95 for an article.

If you can't read Strummer's bold, all-caps handwriting:

ATTN: MARK HAGEN

Dear Mark - here's my contribution

BRUCE IS GREAT... IF YOU DONT AGREE WITH THAT YOU'RE A PRETENTIOUS MARTIAN FROM VENUS. BRUCE LOOKS GREAT... LIKE HE'S ABOUT TO CRAWL UNDERNEATH THE CHORDS WITH A SPANNER AND SOCK THE STARTER MOTOR ONE TIME SO THAT A ENGINE STARTS UP - HUMMING AND READY TO TAKE US ON A GOLDEN RIDE WAY OUT SOMEWHERE IN THE YONDER... BRUCE IS GREAT... BECAUSE HE'LL NEVER LAY DOWN AND BE CONQUERED BY HIS PROBLEMS HE'S ALLWAYS READY TO BUST OUT the SHACK AND HIT THE TRACK... HIS MUSIC IS GREAT ON A DARK and RAINY MORNING IN ENGLAND, JUST WHEN YOU NEED SOME SPIRIT AND SOME PROOF THAT THE BIG WIDE WORLD EXISTS, THE D.J. PUTS ON "RACING IN THE STREETS" AND LIFE SEEMS WORTH LIVING AGAIN... LIFE SEEMS TO BE IN CINEMASCOPE AGAIN. BRUCE IS NOT ON AN EGO TRIP... BRUCE IS ACTUALLY INTO THE MUSIC... WE NEED PEOPLE LIKE THIS... A LOT OF RECORDS TODAY ARE MADE BY PEOPLE JUST TO FEED THEIR FAME. BRUCE IS GREAT... THERE AINT NO WHINGING WHINING OR COMPLAINING.. THERE'S ONLY GREAT MUSIC, LYRICS AND AN OCEAN OF TALENT. ME? I LOVE SPRINGSTEEN!!!

(Signed, 'Joe Strummer')

despbro, with all due respect, how could the Velvet Underground follow Bruce Springsteen around when their last performance with Lou Reed was in 1970?

I read the recent biography of bruce. Obviously the band disbanded then but I know lou reed had him sing on street hassle, and used to listen to him a lot at cbgbs. You'll have to read the book, it's damn good. But it talks about some guys from velvet underground going to wherever bruce was swinging by in NY during late '70s.

fair enough. VU was more than Lou. Mo Tucker became a neocon for anyone who's interested.
