If MLB added 2 more teams, they could move to 8 divisions of 4 teams. You could have home and home series with the 12 non-division league opponents and one interleague which would have every team making the rounds every 4 years for a total of 96 games. You then have 54 division games with 3 home and homes each. That leaves 12 games. I think a fun way could be to have 3 2 game home and homes versus the teams that finished in the same place as you did in your division the years before. E.g. if you finished 3rd in your division, you'd play the other 3 3rd place teams.
