They’ve been discussing trades for pitchers and are likely waiting until after the Sasaki decision.

I doubt it. They dropped 60M. And bothered to pay 5M on a starter. Plus Sasaki skipped Chicago. So the fat lady sung and Jed made his move.

They are not all in. They are cutting budget. The sub owners are stingy and the TV deal is a bust.

It is not a loss though. Caissie was rolling a 30% strike out rate at Iowa so that will go up to 40%> so you want to get it down prior.

Shaw is a advanced bat and was a decent bet

Hendricks and Boyd were a wash. Assad walks too much. Add to it his away FIP was over 5.

So leaving guys on base was going to blow up in his face in a neutral site. Last year was a unicorn.

Horton lost a year and needs to prove healthy and able to dominate AAA. So the 1+1 on Rea was insurance.

I would not be shocked if Tom resigns Jed. Jed is a good puppy dog and follows commands. So Tucker saved some cash and gave the fans a reason to fund the engine.

I would not go in delusional as a fan. Know what they are and what they are not then support truth one way or the other

I have been a Cubs fan for 45 years. I doubt much will change it. But I will ***** and call out them for it

I don’t quite follow the reference when you keep bringing up Owen Caissie in response to pitching.

Sasaki has made it know he will not sign with Giants or Yankees and it seems Mets as well. Dodgers have the least money. Cubs are still in with the Blue Jay, Padres, and seems Mariners since they have the most money.

Sasaki is what teams are waiting for before anything significant can happen.

Also, Arbitration is being blown out of proportion. Tucker ist going to not re sign over that. Thats if the Cubs get out bid.

Red Sox are headed to arbitration over half a million with Duran. Teams do this.

Dodgers, Padres, Blue Jays Reportedly Finalists For Roki Sasaki
January 13th, 2025 at 5:10pm CST • By Darragh McDonald
The Roki Sasaki frenzy is nearing its completion. Several teams have reportedly been told that they won’t be signing the right-hander and now Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Dodgers, Padres and Blue Jays are the three finalists. The Cubs are no longer in the running, according to Mike Rodriguez, with Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic adding that the Cubs have been informed of their status.

It seems that today was the day that Sasaki and his reps started informing teams that had been eliminated from the running. Earlier today, various reports indicated that the Giants, Yankees, Mets, Rangers and Diamondbacks would not be signing Sasaki. The Mariners were vaguely connected to Sasaki at times and hadn’t been expressly eliminated, but it seems they didn’t make it to the podium as one of the top three.

Not sure why the fuss about spending. The Cubs improved their team by spending $60 million less than last year.
Remove the spending part of this off season and just look at the roster.

As of now Jed has given the team tremendous flexibility to signing free agent contracts, extending Tucker, making trades for high priced players, etc. Jed's ability to make any trade has drastically increased.

I doubt that Tucker is a Cub in 2026. That will go 400-500M for 10.

My cash is on Caissie

16.5M. GTG.

Jed pretty much said that his to do list is just pen and a bench bat.

Now Brown is 100% again and has been in Mesa all winter.

So I hope for all of our salkes that he takes it to the next level and takes a rotation spot and don't look back.

Of all of the options going on he is the guy with the highest ceiling. If you go in house don't dick around with innings gobblers.

From the early reports.

Assad is the 5.
Rea the 6
Brown 7
Wicks 8

So it is a durability issue going in. It seems that Jed is not going to give the keys to 2 guys that have not put in a full season. And that is fair

But if Brown starts to put up starts like that 7 inning game next spring. Ya that becomes a thing and plans change that fast

I would be fine with actual spending to win. 1 year on Flarity and Bergman plus A one year on Yates.

All in then drop payroll and reload for 26. I mean that is a big market mentality.

But what I want is not what is going to happen so what is the point. Jed made it clear. They are looking for a vet bench bat and pen.

So the money is not there to all in dump. Most teams are waiting for the next CBA. That is why there is talent still holding out for longer term while teams are looking a 3 year max with opt outs

I wouldn't be shocked if the next CBA will have a payroll deferment limit per team. Having one team dominate for 10 years and then pay for it 10 years after that is a bit much

If you think about it that ownership group Good just run with it until the debt starts to come in and all the guys are gone then sell the team to the Chump that's going to have to pay for the bill

Or 2035 Dodgers go bankrupt. Toyota buys the team and builds a 2nd stadium so their players can get home cooking here and there
