This team looks pretty good, except for those two asscheeks in the bullpen :obama:

Marmot at one point was in the conversation for most dominate closer in the game.

Been at both opening games, thursday and today, and it has been tough! We certainly played well enough to be 2-0, but our closing pitching hasn't been very good, thus, we are sitting at 0-2 after today! It's a long season cubs fans, plenty of time. Let's not jump ship lol. :beerbang:

Tiger Woods got the news about wood and Marmol....Kicks his club

That's pretty much my reaction every year when I look up the roster only to see that somehow Marmol is still on it.

Possibly. They'll be crying for baseball later

Lol

I think the panic is getting kinda funny now. It was sorta maddening at first, but I'm finding it hilarious. I've seen guys asking for a K-Rod trade to save the season.

The thing people fail to realize is that baseball is a marathon and just because the bullpen is shitty one day doesn't mean it'll stay that way forever. There's a possibility that Wood and Marmol are complete shit and they'll probably find that out more over the next ten games or so, but seriously, if you're going to be this upset after two games, you simply won't survive the season.

It's okay to be disappointed that the Cubs didn't win, but 0-2 means that the Cubs have lost 2 of the 60 games they are almost guaranteed to lose. That means there are 102 games in which they could potentially still win a bunch over the 60ish they are likely to win. Maybe they win 10 in a row. Maybe they lose 20 in a row. You simply don't know when the wins and losses will come over that long of a season.

Lasorda was a damn genius.

I kinda think Marmol is Dibble Jr., and that might unfortunately mean he's done done, but yeah, this isn't football man. 2 games isn't 1/8 of your season, it's 1/81th of it.

Yeah it is a marathon, but I don't think it is wrong to be concerned about Marmol at this point because we are seeing the same things we saw last year. That is a slider that is flat.

LOL at people asking the Cubs to go out and get a closer at this point. That is about as pointless of a move as one could make at this point. If Wood and Marmol are truly toast then Dolis is going to get a shot in a few weeks.

I wasn't able to watch the game but I have heard that the velocity is down and Pat Hughes said the offspeed stuff was missing the zone by a lot. Always an adventure with Marmol, but since he's got that contract, they're kind of stuck with him.

I agree that we are stuck with him until he improves. I was hopeful that Marmol would be a bounceback candidate, but it appears like the slider doesn't have the amazing movement that it once had. The decrease in the gap in velocity of pitches was another well documented problem from last season. It is looking more and more like Marmol might be done, but pitching is a funny thing. Perhaps he will find the break on his slider again. We better hope he does.
