I don't think that is the reason that most people buy organic. In my opinion most people do not care about the runoff issue, but rather care much much more about knowing what they are putting into their bodies. If I am going to pay more for something to be organic I personally care about the way it was raised within a strict guideline because of what it is putting into my body, not what it is preventing from going into the gulf of mexico.

Yeah, thats my point. They dont even understand why organics are important.

Like people that think hybrid cars are about saving money on gas. While that is true and nice, saving money is not really the main point. The point is reducing carbon emissions.

Whatever people think about organics, the actual benefit is mostly reducing impact of agriculture. Very few health benefits have been definitively shown with organics, though most people argue there is a flavor benefit.

And btw, runoff is just one example of problems associated with using synthetic compounds in agriculture. There are a lot more.

I think a lot of it is from corn runoff from producing Ethanol. I'm opposed to Ethanol. Ruins engines and is not better than gasoline for the environment.

We should be growing hemp in every field that is producing corn for ethanol. Sustainable, grows faster than corn, and produces a better end user product for fuel consumption.

Ok like i said i was curious about seeing " organic firewood ' for sale so i decided to call and find out how much they are selling it for.

The lady who i talked to said it was just another marketing ploy. But before that, she said that no preservatives or chemicals we're used in the vicinity of the wood.
I hesitated for a few seconds, thinking about that, and that's when she said it was another way to market it.
So it wasn't cut down or chopped with an axe like i read on the internet.
