There are "No Swimming" signs at the lagoon. "My understanding is that he was not swimming," said sheriff’s office spokesperson Jeff Williamson.

Curious 2 year old prolly just went too close to the water's edge.... gator took the opportunity and grabbed the kid.

I see people let their toddlers run loose in public all the time.... could see it here and unfortunately the kid ran into a gator near a lagoon.

Pure speculation on your part. If someone knows the truth please enlighten.

EDIT: Just saw this.

There are no warning signs of gators in the area, but there are notices posted against swimming in the man-made lake.

The problem is that all these bodies of water are connected due to run offs and drain ditches, so all the gators do is use these areas as a highway to get to more areas.

And if it's true they have pulled more gators out of this body of water, fairly irresponsible to not have a gator warning sign, or it was there and removed. Can't see a place like that not warning peolle

One employee at the resort who did not want to be identified said in an email, "There is such a problem on property with guests feeding the alligators thinking it's cool."

IF... and I do emphasize IF the resort knew there were gators there and there were no gator warning signs I'd expect a large lawsuit and then they put up gator warning signs so large the legally blind can see them.

See I lived in Florida for over 15 years, and almost every public area or private business that had water around. Always had a sign do not feed alligators and warning alligators near by

Need a new sign that says "Do not leave Toddlers unattended near Gator Lagoon"

Didn't they recently discover Nile crocs had been introduced to Florida? Much more aggressive than American gators.

They have but that is southern Florida, not sure Nile crocs have made their way to central Florida yet

Why are you not watching the 2 year old, lousy parents? If my 2 year old gets snatched by an alligator I'm jumping on that alligator prepared to fight it to the death.

Literally out of a horror film.

I can't even imagine the Father with every parent instinct in total fight mode trying to get his screaming child out of the gators mouth, only to see it go under water.

I honestly don't know if I'd be able to live with myself after that. How could you?
