Elite player? Eh ... not so much. Very good, sure. Not elite. And I'm a HUGE Campbell fan. But you're going to have a hard time finding a decent return on a player who's making $7+ million and isn't one of the best in the league at his position.

I'll disagree with that. But the "moron" label is more for the people who insist on booing Campbell.

Yeah, that's moronic.

With the fill-in forwards we've had this year and last, I'm not entirely sold how much he would have helped.

Yeah, that's the last one I could think of too. That hit was sweet.

He really planted Doan. Can't help but wonder where that ability is hiding. The guy is obviously strong.

He was always laying guys out with center ice hits in the AHL. He's very good and can play physical, that suspension toned him down.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the coaching staff altered his game.

He went from being a potentially dynamic defenseman to a decent skating shot blocker, pretty much overnight after winning the cup. I get the feeling that he's just playing a role that Q asks him to. Minimize shots and be dependable.

I think it could also be the fact that, unlike Torres, Hjalmarsson has a soul and a conscience and the sight of a guy he hit leaving the ice on a stretcher may have scared him a bit.

To get back on topic, campbell is a HUGE reason why our PP sucked and why the hawks werent as good as a whole this year. He is a very hard player to replace.

I really think people are overrating Campbell and what he meant to the Blackhawks powerplay. He had the 9th most time per game on the PP and only 6 points on the PP last year for the Blackhawks. He wasn't even huge on the entry, he had a nice first pass and speed out of the zone, but I think he is overrated around these parts when it pertains to the PP.

^ I agree...

It's easy to look at who we lost, see a defenseman known for offense and proclaim him to be the problem with the PP

its more than that...

technique
no size to play dump and chase
putting a forward on the point to make the defenseman less willing to attack

thats what I see anyway...

^^^ I agree.

I think Campbell was overrated on the PP and very underrated when it came to his 5 on 5 play. I think you are right that most people get the perception in their head of an "offensive defenseman" and automatically assume that he is a stud on the PP because of that.
