Reading that Jets fans really want Fields to choose them.

The Jets are expected to pursue a veteran, either via trade or free agency. Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields are possible options as the Jets look to rebuild the position.

Cousins makes sense if they're looking to trade up and nab a long-term option.

And funny that this popped up today:

You'd rather believe that there's a snowballs chance in hell that the Jags trade Trevor Lawrence than believe that there's a solid market for Fields in FA and you guys are the ones calling the people who are interested in Fields delusional.
I’ve never made a single comment about a proposed trade of Trevor Lawrence.

They are and others should as well but 'options as the Jets look to rebuild the position.' probably means there looking at some vets as a place holder, not a destination. That Cousins is in the same convo makes it rather obvious. That said, if Field got a starting gig and stepped it up, doesn't mean that a team wouldn't become happy with their current QB situation. There is also no inside info in that article and clearly the writers opinion on what options may be pursued.

Here's what Jeremy Folwer had to say about the extension talks with the Steelers:

"This one's complicated because I do know there's some sentiment in the building for bringing back Justin Fields," Fowler said on SportsCenter. "Both sides, Fields and the Steelers, are certainly open to a potential reunion. Fields wants a realistic shot to start. He wants a clear path to be the guy for a full season, which he was not last year."

So Fields wants them to commit to him being "the guy" for next season if he's going to forgo his chance at being an unrestricted FA. Basically that means - if I sign here you gotta promise me you're not going to go out and then sign a Carr or Rodgers and completely buttfuck another season for Fields.

Going back to the Jets talk - they're looking to be competitive next year so they're looking for a QB with some level of experience - right now Fields is the betting favorite to go there (+300 currently) but if/when Carr gets cut I could see them being interested in him too.

The free agency market really shapes up during the combine. I highly doubt the Steelers offer him enough to get him to forgo FA.

Justin Fields is gonna be 35 years old and still have people making threads like, “Here are the places Fields can go to be QB1! After 13 years, he will finally be vindicated!”
Only on this place

And they'll all reference the missed "haul" in 2024

Can't copy & paste but Steelers beat reporter Mark Kaloby thinks the Steelers will have a number for Fields and if it exceeds their number they'll move back to Russ. Thinks it'll be 2 years - $25/30M for Fields.

Dunno if that's a good enough offer for him to forgo FA especially if there's a team or two out there that would tailor their offense fully to him. Hope the people posting about this at 3AM in the morning like absolute freaks can handle this reporting.

I kind of assumed his structure would be similar to the Gardner minshew contract which appears to be the case based on this report

In retrospect, I think I said it here... but hilarious that people like Chase Daniel based their argument for Fields on the premise that he would cost at team only 5 million a year. What world is he living in? Fields easily should exceed 10/year and the duration of that is maybe negotiable depending on what he wants. I assume he can get 2-3 years at that AAV if he wants, but he may want a "prove it" deal to cash in a year later (a la Darnold).

Saw reporting that Winston is expected to get 2/$25M and he's in the Titans/Colts/Giants class.

Pittsburgh's really going to have to stare down bringing back Wilson before FA if they can't come to terms with Justin - but then they'd be negotiating with Wilson and Wilson's camp would know that Fields is deadset on hitting FA so they really can't play that much hardball because Wilson would then have all of the leverage. They have to be fine with walking into FA with nobody on the roster if they want to play hardball and I'm not sure if they're willing to do that. Last year they had Pickett on the roster when they nabbed Wilson - they'll be wildly desperate in FA without something on the roster.

IMO the opportunity/fit is more important than the years/money. If Fields camp and say the Raiders camp see a strong fit and it's the best opportunity for Fields to play his best in 2025 - you take that over a middle of the road contract.

I don't think it's a great sign that the Steelers signing may come down to how much to pay Fields, especially if he's not being silly with his requested salary, which I'm sure he's not. A few $m one way or the other at QB should never be the straw that breaks a deal in the NFL. We don't know how much of this is negotiation leverage but this sort of hedging isn't good for Justin. maybe they're all waiting for FA to set the market but I suspect Justin and the Steelers could have had this done by now if it were both sides 1st choices.

I stand by my initial opinion that Justin Fields should stay in Pittsburgh for less money than he can receive from another team as a free agent.

If he’s given assurances of being the starter like Russell Wilson was given last season, I think it’s best for his long term career to stay under a solid Steelers franchise with Mike Tomlin. If he signs a modest 3 year prove it deal, he will be in a better position for a huge contract after the first two seasons.

Personally, he is not on the Bears roster so idgaf. For entertaining purposes, refer to my first sentence.
