I’ll give them credit they have kept it completely under wraps. You know that asshole schefter is just salivating at the chance to tweet it out.

That's the thing. If it's "Commanders" it was leaked a month ago. Jason Wright was on a local show and he put his notes on his armrest. When you zoomed in on the photo, the round logo clearly says "The DC Football Commanders" along the top. And "The Peoples Team" along the bottom. same Burgundy and Gold color scheme. Uniforms also very basic.

Many are speculating that this was a false leak and that the new name will not be Commanders but I don't see the WFT being that smart.

I hope it was in the running and someone leaked it to put the pressure on WFT to make a decision.

I mean FFS its been 2 seasons of Washington Football Team.

If nothing else their merchandise manufacturers/marketers/retailers deserve a decision so they can move forward.

I heard someone say it should have been the "Pigskins", and after laughing at it at first... I kinda liked it.

People refer to a football as a "pigskin."
People used to call the Redskins "skins" for short, so this would still fit the bill.
"The Hogs" was a nickname given to the Redskins offensive line in the 80's/90's. The name stuck and their cheerleaders were even called "The Hogettes" for 3 decades. Of course, a hog is an adult pig.

It actually would have been perfect.

That's why I liked Warthogs. I saw a pretty badass logo too but I don't think that one even made their final cuts.

I still maintain that when the Blackhawks inevitably change their name/imagery, they should change to the "Black Hawks" and the imagery literally be a black hawk.
I say change it to Night Hawks and have helmets with Sly Stallone on them.

And when the Bullets were looking to change their names, these were the options: Dragons, Express, Stallions, Sea Dogs, and the Wizards.

Can you fuckin imagine it being the Washington Sea Dogs?

I like it. Sounds too much like a minor league baseball team though. Or some small college I would have bought a hat of 25 years ago.

Why did the Bullets change their name? I’m assuming because it can be associated with gun violence? People are stupid.

Sure, some guy is planning to rob a store with his gun, but then has a sudden change of heart when he learns the incredible news that the team is now called the Wizards.
