NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Courtney Paris might as well hang on to her money. Oklahoma doesn't plan to be collecting a payoff from her failed national championship guarantee any time soon.

Paris had promised that she would repay the university for all four years of her scholarship if the Sooners didn't win their first national championship, but athletic director Joe Castiglione told The Associated Press on Tuesday he doesn't plan to hold her to it.

Castiglione says he appreciated Paris' guarantee as a gesture of her devotion to her team, but he thinks the sport's only four-time AP All-American has already made "astounding" contributions to the program and women's college basketball.

I didn't like this from the beginning, and my suspicions became true. Just some dumb talk from her, because she knew that no one was ever going to make her pay it back, making them empty words.

Well no kidding.

This is just like when the superbowl comes and 10 guys from each side guarantee victory.

Of course Oklahoma wasn't going to try to collect on it.

She can still make good by donating the money to the scholarship fund, as far as I'm concerned. Lord knows the alumni association and/or fundraising committee will be calling her about that 6 times a year!

You think she makes enough money doing something that she's going to be the alumni they hit up for cash? I have no idea what she's going to do for a living, but it seems like a stretch to predict her to be a future millionaire unless she already is one (which I have no idea).

She's a female basketball player. She'll make probably around $60,000 in the WNBA. Maybe a bit more if she plays in Russia or somewhere like that in their offseason.

The max is 95k a year according to inside hoops which is quite a bit more than I thought. Still, Linton Johnson made 53k on his 10 day contract.

You guys think I'm making any money? I'm working on a PhD paying the bills with a half-time TA position, and it hasn't stopped the school I currently attend from calling for donations - I'm an alum because of the masters degree. I have degrees from 3 different schools, and they all call all the time - if you guys managed to get off the potential donor list, please let me know how.

I'm not suggesting that she'd "donate" it back all at once - but the total was around $64,000 so it's hardly out of the realm of possibilities that she couldn't get there over a lifetime. Will she? I have no idea, not knowing her personally. But the point was just because the school isn't going after it doesn't mean she has no means to return it.

Move to China like I did. My school can't find me any more so ther's no way for them to hit me up for donations.

Of course my friends can't find me either, so there's a downside...

??????? ? ??????!

Upside: Can't be tracked down for student loans and donations.

Downside: Taken into the Kremlin and never come out.

Wow, I've never gotten a call from my alumni associations. I wonder if they just can't find my phone number.

Though this brings up a random piece of trivia I know from working in the direct marketing industry for awhile.

Did you know that a company who is asking for donations can't be banned from contacting you through the standard no pandering marketing lists? There are lists for phone and mail to opt out of all marketing, but you can't opt out of marketing from non-profit organizations.

This was especially interesting because a non-profit had a glitch in their system somehow and they were calling one of my friends 50 times a day with their computer, and he couldn't get any kind of legal injunction against them. He eventually canceled the phone number.

This is something we have had for a very long time on another Hockey board that I am a member of. As we have proven, with the tragic loss (any loss is tragic, whether unexpected or known it was a possibility) of Tbird, we are a family of Hockey fans, regardless of how douchey we can act. Use this as a place to ask for encouragment for a big upcoming event....a family member in the hospital.....loss of a family member....news of a graduation...things like that......it helps....never thought so, but it does.

Request that a mod pin this.

I'll open it up. My "other" Dad is in a coma in a hospital in Texas. Mike was hit on his Harley while going the 4 miles to see one of his daughters. He has been in this coma for two weeks, and we still have no clue how he is doing, as some days everything is great, no fluctuations in body temp or ICP (internal cranial pressure) then others, well, they call his priest to keep him on call for last rites. As of last night, Kitty informed us the prognosis went to the bad, again.

Keep fighting it Mike.....you have a gaggle of grand kids that want you at their graduations.

I'm sorry to hear that. I find it hard sometimes to come up with words of encouragement that don't sound old and cliche, but that's all I've got.

Hang in there and I hope he finds a way to pull through.

It's been a tough month for our board members here on IHN. One thing for sure is that no matter what happens we'll be here for you.

Bubble, thoughts and prayers for him and his loved ones.

Last week has been shitty for me as well. My Uncle in Florida (very close to and did my offshore fishing trips with) was riding his motorcycle a week ago Weds. At a stoplight he falls over, massive heart attack. He never regained consciousness. They kept him on life support until we were all together at his bedside last Friday morning when they turned the machines off. Long weekend.......... I then get the word that TBird passed early Thursday morning and headed up to Fox and Hound to be with the group. I held it together better then I thought I would.

My inspiration started yesterday with a golf event and today at Buffet at Alpine Valley. Sometimes you just need to drown everything out if you know what I mean.

Please ignore my original post. The edit button is not showing up for me so I could change it. I asked Supraman to delete it for me, but he has not sone so yet. I don't want Bubble's thread to get cluttered with that other stuff. I misintepreted the point of his thread and I apologize for that.

When I heard about Tbird, I was flooded with all the feelings I had when cancer took my father June 19 2009. It is something that will slowly heal, but with support from friends we can make it through anything. Keep your head up yall and keep moving.

The passing of Tbird brought back some raw feelings for me even though I never knew him personally.

My dad passed away from throat cancer. Some years later, my mom remarried a really nice guy. Unfortunately, he got stomach cancer and also passed away.

Since I heard the tragic news, I've not only thought about what Tbird went through. I've thought a great deal about what his family is enduring because I've been there.

I wish I had some great words of wisdom, but I don't.

All I do know is having support from people who honestly care does mean a lot.

So know that you're not alone in your time of need, and that people are there for you.
