I lost my dad last year to a sudden heart attack. I never got to say goodbye and will always feel that he left us too soon. I am fortunate enough to have had over 30 years with him and quite often have chats with him in my dreams and feel his presence nearby, usually when a fire truck passes since he was a FF for 50 years. In fact, while trying to find my friend's house in a new town after being on the road for 13 hours last weekend, an antique firetruck with a party on the back drove by as we neared the house. He was also a presence when I proposed to my wife just a few months after he passed, by gracing us with the presence of Tom Skilling of WGN, his most favorite weather man in the world, and the siren's wail and lights of a Chicago Fire Department truck as she said "yes".

I hope those who have lost loved ones recently can cherish their time spent with them and experience those memories and feel that presence the way I have been fortunate enough to do since he left us.

As someone who lost a parent at a very young age, I can assure you all that things get better with time. You will never forget the good times with those you cared about. If any silver lining is to be found, it is that you realize how quickly someone can be taken and hopefully that leads you to treat the living just a little bit better on a daily basis.

Sorry for your loss bubble.

Thank you Klem for your help and support regarding my mother's breast cancer. She is fine now although the meds are messing her up a little.

Don't know how many of you consider household pets to be part of your family. WIfe and I always have, because up until Christian Michael came into our lifes, we couldn't have children.

Anyway, I had to have our cat, Midnight, put to sleep yesterday. She had been with us for 17 years, and unfortunately father time had caught up with her. She went from being completely mobile to unable to walk at all in a little over 2 weeks....and the Doc said it was simply her time.I remember the day I picked her up from a friend of mine to bring home to Lisa....little ****** clawed her way up my chest and curled up on my shoulder as I drove home. Never thought the loss of a cat would bother me as much as this has......

This year has sucked.....her Brother, Aunty, my "other" Dad, and now our cat....all gone.

She was a part of your life for 17 years. It is only natural to take it so hard. I'm sure even the dogs feel her loss. Pets are very intuitive. I hope you can find comfort in your happy memories of her. Big Hug to you and your family.

Marley and Me reduces me to a bag of meaningless goo every time I watch it. We have a yellow lab now going on 9 years. She is family to all of us and she is my shadow. When I am home she follows me room to room. I can envision the day when I will be the one putting her in the car for her last ever ride..........

My dad is the same way, he can not watch it. The reason behind it being, I had a yellow Lab (Jeremiah....named after the bullfrog....let's see how many know what I am talking about), That I couldnt take with me when I left for boot camp....and my then wife didnt take with her when she hauled ass. Anyway, he became my Dad's dog...and was devastated when he finally left the world at 16.....

The One from the Three Dog Night Song? I never understood why a frog would drink wine, I thought they drank Budwiser.

Death is never easy.

Just remeber everyone grieves, it's okay to grieve, at least for a little while (Your loved ones would not want you putting your life, your hopes, and your dreams on hold forever because they won't be there physically to share them with you). But remember that this is EVERYONE. Not just adults. It doesn't matter if they are 5 or 15. They deserve to go to the funeral and say goodbye--i's not like they loved them any less than you did.

I guess my grandma is on the decline. She has been in the ICU since the 15th and i guess her lungs are just done. My uncle is trying to get hospice care set up so she can go home. It's not a big shock to me or anything but it's just been a shitty year. We haven't even gone to visit her in the hospital because I can't bring myself to step foot in that ICU again
