RT @friesensunmedia: Bill Daly says NHL board of governors has NOT pre-approved relocation of #Thrashers to Wpg.

It'll be approved anyway.

The Thrashers will likely switch conferences, but which team goes to the Eastern Conference is a mystery.

I think its good for hockey to have teams in Canada. I like the move to Winnipeg for them.

I'm pretty sure Columbus and Detroit are further east than Nashville. I think nothing else besides those cities is quantifiable as east.

Chicago and Dallas must be the next most eastern teams.

It's probably all about time zones anyways - so all teams mentioned are in EST ---

Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, and Atlanta.

I'll believe it when it is official; but yeh, I am hoping ( well maybe not come to think of it - I might be the only person in the world -well Australia, at any rate... with an Atlanta Thrashers jersey (it was a gift ...).) -Winnipeg is all right ( Pat Foley and Dale Tallon used to hate the place in the 80's - apparently they roll up the sidewalks at dark -and it gets dark pretty early in the Winter).

I wouldn't know - the closest I ever been was to Thunder Bay. (And bought a Jets jersey back then --- granted it was awhile ago .... like Dale Hawerchuk days).

New Report from a couple minutes ago says Done Deal again, with different sources.

Winnipeg could have a National Hockey League team next season after all.

A Toronto newspaper is reporting that an agreement to sell the Atlanta Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment has been completed.

The Winnipeg group plans to relocate the franchise to the Manitoba capital in time for the 2011-12 season.

According to the Globe and Mail, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will travel to Winnipeg on Tuesday to make the official announcement.

ESPN.com and USA Today both reported Thursday night that no deal was in place.

True North Sports and Entertainment owns the MTS Centre arena in Winnipeg, which would become the NHL team's new home.

An announcement would bring to a close months of speculation and innuendo that Winnipeg — without an NHL team since 1996 — would land one of the troubled Southern U.S. teams.

Much of that speculation surrounded the financially troubled Phoenix Coyotes, but after the City of Glendale stepped in and covered $25-million U.S. of the Coyotes losses for the 2011-2012 season, the NHL decided to give the franchise another season in Arizona.

Earlier on Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was reporting that the hunt for a buyer to purchase the Thrashers and keep them in Atlanta had narrowed down to one. The newspaper also reported that True North was still in the picture but neither group had entered into an exclusive negotiating agreement with the Atlanta Spirit — owners of the Thrashers.
Report: Thrashers to Winnipeg is a done deal

I was up till about 2am last night digging into this as when I heard the news I was ficking pumped to have a NHL team within and hour and half driving distance to me.

What I have concluded is that the deal is done, they are tinkering with some aspects but it will happen. The NHL will now be involved with the Relocation fee which is bullshit. But I'm pretty sure we hear confirmation as early as mid next week.

Also on the team name. Lots of speculation going on right now. Whether it will be Manitoba or Winnipeg, Jets, Falcons, Moose....

The name jets and logo is available but they would have to buy the rights back from the NHL something that Im notsure they would want to do but they would definitely please A LOT of people doing so. I dont think that TNSE would stick with the moose, Falcons are another good option as it was a team from Winnipeg named Falcons that won the first olympic gold medal for hockey. Some people are even drawing up some jersey ideas for falcons.
such as: Winnipeg Jets

and here is a version of the moose jerseys

Winnipeg will have a season ticket drive and if x amount of tickets are sold, they will get the team.
