Chiefs expectations are a Super Bowl trip or bust every year. Lofty goals, but the goals none the less

Oh yeah. The Chiefs were real underdogs. They even had to play all of their playoff games at HOME! Ugh. What a tough road to the Super Bowl.

Basically one of the super bowl betting favorites all year even when they sucked to start the season......and still.......nobody thought we'd be here routine?

Is Jackson Mahomes in charge of that Twitter account?

The point of the NFL's model is parity. The model they want is working perfectly. Small market teams can get to the mountain top just the same as big market teams.

It's not that they are a small market team. It's that they have been a perennial bottom feeder the last couple years. A subpar roster. Terrible OLine. Literally don't know anyone on their defense aside from noticing their one pro bowl guy and loudmouth Eli apple.

Their 3 best players (Burrow, Chase, Higgins) could all have been in college this past season if they didn't forego their Senior year.

I feel almost like they are a college team that is in the SuperBowl...and it's not a good look for a college team to win the championship. It takes away from the prestige of it all.

Doesn't take away...kind of exciting really.

Yet those cucks (Mixon, Chase, & Higgins) gave me like 11 or 12 points combined in Rd. 1 of Fantasy playoffs for the insta-exit...then proceeded to go bananas the next week as usual. haa. Go figure. I wish them and the Bungles fans well. Also Stafford tho - dude escaped pergitory/hell of Detroit AND got even more $$ to finally have a shot.

Nice it's not the same old perennial PO teams. Nobody can say playoffs haven't been some great football watching this year.

there have been very good playoff games this year. the #1 teams are usually the ones that go to the Super Bowl; they were knocked off in both conferences. just owes to the point about parity and anyone can go to the dance like @RiDLer80 said. and it's not like the Bengals are the first team to ever make a turnaround in a couple years, but they may be the first to actually make the Super Bowl under said conditions... possibly ever.

That comes out to around 50 million per year.

I wonder when normal contracts will be paying a star QB 50 million or more.

Allen is already at 43 million.

2022 is the first year where he will have a significant cap hit (35). 2023, 2024 and 2025 will be around 45 million cap hit. 2026 will be somewhat of a bargain at 41. It is 2027 where it will be painful for the Chiefs (60 million cap hit). After that it is 42, 44, 50 and 52.

The 7th and 8th years will be bargains by that time and the 9th and 10th year will probably also end up as bargains. QB salaries will continue to climb and I believe that salaries will climb well over 7 million in 9 years, especially with the new tv deals about to hit.

Mahomes will be a huge drain on KC's cap hit for 1 year. They have 6 years to plan for it. They will be fine.

Bad take.

It gives bottom feeder team fans hope. Parity is the keyword nowadays. Anyone can go from being horrible to being really good in a year or two.

The NFL is selling hope.

Why didn't you complain when the Bills moved from bottom feeders to good? Or the Saints? Or the Colts? Or the Patriots?

Those were some of the worst teams in the NFL for years, along with Detroit. They got franchise QBs and were suddenly good.

My intent & assumption was to say he got paid a ton while being "stuck" in Detriot, but now he's making $$$ still, but on a contender.

You're right that it's not as much as I initially assumed...

Kelce will be one of the few guys they can probably actually hold onto fairly cheaply, at $8.8 mil. Their other major pieces....well, some decisions will have to be made.

For one, Tyrann Mathieu will almost certainly be gone, and we've seen what the Chiefs secondary looks like without him (not good!). That would free up $19 mil, but they're going to have to replace him with someone, and those savings are more than offset by some of their more expensive obligations. See below.

Let's take a look at Chiefs 2022-23 season salaries:

Mahomes - Cap hit goes from $7.4 mil to $35 mil

C. Jones - Cap hit goes from $8.5 mil to $29 mil

Hill - Cap hit goes from $15.8 mil to $20.6 mil

Clark - Cap hit goes up slightly from $25.8 mil to $26.3 mil

Thuney - Cap hit goes from $4.5 mil to $17.8 mil

You assumed he got paid more when he went to LA....he didn't. He is still on his same contract. He is a FA after next year.
Perfect example of these high paying QB contracts becoming bargains down the road. When he signed this contract he was one of the highest paid, now, with the same contract, he is a bargain.
