I would disagree with that and say adding a top-4 defenseman is a more pressing need than any forward.

Derek Roy..

Roy wouldn't be a great choice.

Might as well just go with Kane at center if you are going to go with Roy. Does this team really need another undersized guy, especially as a center?

Also, Blackhawks would have to trade for Roy and take on his 4Mil in cap hit. Unless it is a pure salary dump, which won't happen because Roy is talented - just not what the Blackhawks need, then this would make no sense for the Blackhawks.

Stall would be the best of those two.

Solves more needs than Parise - size and center
Will come with much less of a cap hit

Bingo

I'd much rather have Staal as well. He's what the Hawks need and his cap hit isn't as big which would leave room for D-man or a goalie/forward depth. Much better for the Hawks.

If we're going to sign any UFAs I'd like to see us concentrate on either a 2nd line center who can not only distribute and score, but who can backcheck, play a little defense, and who has some size, or if we can't get that then I'd like to see us look for a little size in a top 4 defenseman who can skate. I don't care if he can skate the puck out of the zone ala Campbell, but if we can pair someone with Leddy in that second group who can be that pair's Seabs, then I'm good with that.

Failing all that give me a netminder who can stand on his head, but that's my last option of the three...

Signing another undersized winger who doesn't play defense or hit doesn't really float my boat.

That's why Staal and some legit fourth liners is the best scenario. I'd also like a D-man like the one you described.

They have a defensemen that fits the profile, Hjalmarsson. He is seemingly reluctant to use the size on occasion though.

Of all the needs and wants out of some pick up desired, the only thing I want that I expect could easily get done is adding a top 9 player who has size/physicality. Doesn't need to be a center, which would be nice, but a capable player that can push to deserve top 6 time or just push effortless playing Bickell in his down to the 4th line or off the active list would improve a lot.

its a tough call.

if kane is the 2nd line center and if they made their mind up about that than you have to go with Parise all day long over Staal. If Kane is staying on the wing than you go for staal.

The fact that we have no size at all sucks because we would be forced to get staal and not Parise. If we had some size Parise and Kane on the same line would be very nice to watch. Parise OPS/DPS are off the charts for his career.

If I had the choice in this specific discussion, this would be the only way I would accept Kane at center if it meant that we have Parise along side him.

I think the Hawks have to get the real center instead of another undersized wing. Parise is a great player, but he's not really what the Hawks need. Kane will be more effective on the wing and having a real 2C will help that even more.

The thing the Hawks need is size, so going after an undersized forward does you no good. I'd say Staal over Parise for sure.

At the same time, if it is so smart to trade unproven for proven...why would the Penguins do that trade?

Blackhawks would have to make it worthwhile for the Penguins and that would include players that would also help them win right now.

Bolland + Bickell/Stalberg + prospect/pick is what it would take to get Stall. All prospects isn't going to do it.

I've heard they want Hammer. So...

Hammer+Bickell+prospect

Hammer is a possibility, but I think it would take more than that if Hammer is in there and Bolland would atleast fill the hole that Staal leaves.

The Penguins have an overpaid blue line in a couple of guys and a whole lot of UFA's after next year.
