I see everyone's just gonna blame Grossman, despite the fact that he didn't have the first or second TO by the Bears in that game. Despite the fact that he wasn't allowing Manning to convert 3rd downs at a 50% clip for the majority of the game. Despite the fact that he wasn't the one who decided to call pass after pass in the fucking rain, or go completely prevent on Peyton Manning. He was a part of the loss, but he wasn't the only part. The Bears got outplayed, outsmarted, and above all, out-coached.

What part of coaching was Indy just punching backups in the face in the run game in a rain storm? I guess Bears coached Rex to commit three turnover including a game clinching pick six? Bears got physically beat by when they went in undermanned.

They both sucked, I will go to the grave haunted by 1a: the Super Bowl loss and 1b: the loss to GB.

And I think the OP's point was not that Grossman almost beat the Colts, but that an inconsistent and flawed QB like Grossman (which Cutler is arguably better than) was able to put Chicago on the brink of a Super Bowl win. It's a valid point, Cutler is more than talented enough to get Chicago a ring. Unfortunately the comparison doesn't really hold water because the 2013 defense/special teams are not even close.

Kyle Orton beat Peyton Manning.

The Super Bowl loss hurt much worse than the NFC Championship. Hell no one cared about who won or lost the NFC Championship, all anyone cared about was some guy's knee.

I blame Ron Turner way more than Rex. Who decides to throw the ball in a fucking monsoon when Peyton Manning is on the other side of the field and you're trying to keep the ball out of his hands. Run the ball down their throat, eat up the clock, keep Peyton off the field, limit turnovers.

In a way yes..Especially since Jones was having a good game rushing the ball. Yeah, they lost Benson due to injury (bastard fumbled the ball away anyways). And up until the 4th Q, Grossman had fumbled two snaps and barely completed a pass over 10 yards. He was something like 20/28 in that game but ONLY 168 yards or something like that. So Turner did handicap him most of the game, I think. I also think the Bears felt like they were down a lot more than they really were and that was kinda common with Ron Turner in that he would panic and start wanting to do deeper plays or go pass heavy.

Still though, Grossman played like he was scared shitless that game, evident by his two dropped snaps.

The only time we were close to winning that super bowl was when hester ran back that kick, after manning got the ball it was over.

I still can't stand dungy to this day being from indy and being a bears fan with an house full of inlaws who were colts fan it was way worse for me. I punted my neighbors cat across the yard and didn't feel a bit bad about it and still dont rough day.

Wow...this is homerism at its finest. You're lamenting a loss to GB more than a loss in the Superbowl just because they're the rival? I was pissed about the GB game...but I didn't want people to talk to me after the Superbowl.

I had a few people at my house for the Super Bowl, got a pony keg and got shit housed out of frustration. If the Bears make it to a Super Bowl again I probably won't throw a party because I don't want a repeat of that night

I'm still pissed re: NFC Championship Game vs GB too. I think the BEARS really fucked up a golden opportunity to keep GB out of the playoffs. If they're not in to get hot and go all the way...who knows? Martz really dialed it back in that last game of the year at GB. Lovie'd learned his lesson. He wasn't going to rest guys and be rusty as had happened in the past. The D was fucking unreal in that game, playing so hard. It seemed like Martz was trying to keep things close to the vest, playing REALLY vanilla, maybe "saving" shit for the playoffs. I think if the O had been unleashed like the D had been, we win that game.

Our odds were better of beating GB in Chicago than going into Atlanta and winning. Neither were good odds but the home game balanced the scales a little.

Yet, dropped snaps were a common problem while Kruetz was center, but since he left, not so much.

Dude, **** Ron Turner for not running the ball. Thomas Jones breaks a 50 yard run, and then just abandons the run game. **** Ron Turner.

The Bears in all liklihood will reach the super bowl again soon. Its not as likely they'll play the green bay packer in the NFC Championship. Super Bowl.in my opinion is not as intense as the nfc afc championship.SSuper Bowl is a party and feels good to be there. The Championship is the last spot where all the blood sweat n tears go.. Outside in the elements.

Disagree. I'm never scared to go into ATL and play them. Orton beat them if it weren't for that dumbass squib kick, busted coverage 10 second shit. The game with Cutler was close there too. Forgot how we lost that one. Rodgers went in there and destroyed them. He was on a real hot streak that postseason, but he didn't play that well against the BEARS D in the NFCCG (his worst QB rating of the postseason by far).

Rex Grossman never came close to beating Peyton Manning at anything. The Bears came kinda close to beating the Colts in that SB but not really.

lol I kicked everyone left my house and just laid down on the couch and fell asleep, I was so worn out and emotionally drained. Sad sad day.

I was away at college when we faced the Packers and I was soooo pumped for that game. Was at the local Chicago bar well over an hour before, just drinking coffee with my two good buddies, bar was somewhat dead. I donned my sweater vest and was ready to roll. I thought we had the game too then bam... All hell broke loose in the 2nd half witht hat shitbag todd collins.

After that loss my buddies n me just sulked with the owner of the bar for a good hour or so. I walked out in the parking lot with my beer bottle I forgot I even brought and just slammed it into the next buildings parking lot. And just sulked like a baby lol. We tore up the town on a sunday night and just got rocked, was not a fun getting drunk either.. It was actuall quite miserable

Hester put up the first TD, Jones big run setup the 2nd and the defense put them in FG range for a total of 17 pts. Grossman didn't do a damn thing in that game. All it would have taken is a half way decent game from the QB position to win that game. I also believe if Tommy didn't get hurt that year they would have won it all also.

Running the ball is what would have given us a chance to win that game. The defense couldn't get off the field because they couldn't stop Dominic Rhodes. Running the ball would have at least given them a rest. Neither the defense or Rex helped win that game but the first person to blame is Ron Turner.
