Let me put it this way. IF the present team that the Bears have goes 9-7, the entire coaching staff should immediately be inducted into the Professional Football HOF because this would mean that the coaching group last year was the worst in the history of the league. THe Bears have not improved the over-all talent level of their team from last year and have actually lost ground talent wise to the others in their division.

I'll repeat. If this assembly of meat led by Jay FUCKING Cutler goes 9-7, open up the doors of the HOF immediately and let em in!

Are you in fact that Mongo guy?

Lost our top pass rusher from last year to an Achilles.

I'll give you that. Considering that can be up to an 11-month recovery process, it's possible that Young won't see the field until halfway through the season.

Lost our best interior pass rusher to FA.

What attempt did we make to sign him? I'm gonna have to go with zero.

Most likely our best interior LB's are Shea and Bostic

Or Jones and Foster. Which doesn't sound nearly as bad as McClellin and Bostic imo.

Filled the holes in our pathetic defense with tier-3 and tier-4 talent on one-year "prove it" deals.

I love the "tier-3" and "tier-4" stuff. Lol. McDonald and McPhee are tier-3 or tier-4?

Used their first round pick on what likely ends up being a wash in production from the guy we had last year.

BPA. WR was a need. White is the kind of WR we needed. Marshall and Jeffery were too similar. If White plays reasonably well this year, White/Jeffery/Royal/Bennett/Forte will be hard for defenses to deal with in the passing game.

Used 3 of 4 first picks on offensive players even though the defense is complete shit.

Free Agency was used more to bolster the defense. Goldman and Amos were solid picks. There are holes on both sides of the ball. Can't blame Pace for his picks, it was a good draft on paper.

None of those offensive players fixed the biggest issue we have on the team - Cutler.

Lol the biggest issue on the team. The biggest issues on the team got their walking papers back in December. Cutler's turnovers are costly. Hopefully, Gase can put him in a position to succeed by supporting him with a strong running game, and not trying to make the passing game 80% of our offensive attack.

While I don't think we're the worst in the NFL - we are realistically somewhere between 3-10, IMO

Based on our draft position, I suppose we were the 7th worst team in the NFL at season end. With all the changes we've made with GM/coaching/FA/draft, I'd say we've gotten better, not worse. Based on a pretty tough schedule, our record may not reflect that. But at least the arrow seems to be pointing up. And tanking this year wouldn't be a terrible idea considering we need to draft the heir to the QB throne.

It's likely not as bleak as you continually try to make it out to be. But Emery and Trestman put us in a pretty bad place. So there will be growing pains.

The Bears are a bottom 10 team in the NFL, how that sorts itself out really comes down to injuries and other unforeseen things.

The Bears are not the worst team in the NFL.

Off the top of my head

Tennessee
Jacksonville
Cleveland
Washington
Tampa Bay

Those 5 teams are worse in my estimation and a couple of others are very similar.

I question how Young would be standing up even healthy. Long legs. He's a good player, but probably a bit wasted if it's just nickle. I like the guy a lot - good on the edge and a guy who gets the team going with his effort. I'm just not sure about him at OLB.

No but he is a good poster who does know a bit about the game in my opinion. Don't always agree with him, but he doesn't just go along with the crowd but rather presents his own independent opinion which I like.

Colts are 3rd best team in the league ?, lmao

I think that they are on paper the best team in the AFC right now. They had another good draft and I believe that Luck will be the best quarterback in the league this year.

A lot of the so-called "experts" are really bagging on the 9ers. I still see a lot of talent on the team.

That is the problem with the Bears.

I agree competent coaching will help.

But this team is talent deficent and Emery's drafts are shaping up to be pretty terrible. Coaching cannot mask a severe lack of difference making talent.

I wouldn't be so quick on oakland. They're improving and Carr looks like a legit pro quarterback.

I do believe Carr is for real. However, the Raiders are still one of the leagues's worst teams until they prove otherwise.

What attempt did we make to sign him? I'm gonna have to go with zero.

Yes... Therefore we have lost our best interior pass rusher. Like I said.

Or Jones and Foster. Which doesn't sound nearly as bad as McClellin and Bostic imo.

Like picking between the fat girl or the ugly one.

I love the "tier-3" and "tier-4" stuff. Lol. McDonald and McPhee are tier-3 or tier-4?

MCPhee: Unable to crack starting lineup - ever.... Macdonald averages 2.5 sacks a year.

Great.. You upicked a couple guys who might be borderline tier-2-3

BPA. WR was a need. White is the kind of WR we needed. Marshall and Jeffery were too similar. If White plays reasonably well this year, White/Jeffery/Royal/Bennett/Forte will be hard for defenses to deal with in the passing game.

BPA is a question mark.

Receiver was only a need because we created it.

Funny how them being "similar" was not an issue in 2013.

Free Agency was used more to bolster the defense. Goldman and Amos were solid picks. There are holes on both sides of the ball. Can't blame Pace for his picks, it was a good draft on paper.

So were Emery's. And this one looked a lot like his.

Lol the biggest issue on the team. The biggest issues on the team got their walking papers back in December. Cutler's turnovers are costly. Hopefully, Gase can put him in a position to succeed by supporting him with a strong running game, and not trying to make the passing game 80% of our offensive attack.

LOL at people who still have faith that Cutlers 6th OC can fix him.

Every team made changes and "got better".

It's when you peel it back and objectively evaluate where the upgrades (if any) occurred that you can get a feel for where it might play out.

It's likely not as bleak as you continually try to make it out to be. But Emery and Trestman put us in a pretty bad place. So there will be growing pains.

I heard this exact same stuff about Emery and Trestman when they replaced. Lovie and Angelo.

You need talent to win games. Good coaches can work with good talent. We don't have good talent. yet.

I remember back in the 60s and 70s. I was totally nuts on the Bears and bought into the optimism of the local announcers and reporters cause it was all we had. The truth was we were always closer to the bottom than the top. It was never about winning a game but following individual performances like Walter and Gail and Butkus. We watched games just to see if Doug Plank would kill someone. That's no way to follow football. Couple dream seasons in the 80s and mid 2000s, but outside of that just a total shit franchise.

People here pray for change but when they get it they have to reset and end up losing another 5 years. But they never ask if the new regime will innovate or just be an improvement on the old. John Fox may be a great and likable guy but is he the innovator we need? No. So we get 5 years of 7-9 wins and will end up starting over

So offer someone up...this great innovator the Bears should have hired this year. Bottom line is the fans don't have any control over that. All we CAN do is hope for the best and try to find reason for optimism. Obviously we can identify weaknesses too but what good does that do either? We're just fans. You're still a fan too or you wouldn't live on this board like you do.

Do I think John Fox is "the second coming"? No. Do I think he will surround himself with a staff that is far superior to anything we've seen in recent decades? Yes, I think he's well on his way. I also like the GM so far until he proves undeserving. I don't think we'll see the playoffs this year like many other board members do but I think we'll see a mix of improvement along with some growing pains from another new system and new personnel making the adjustments. As long as expectations for this season are realistic you'll be fine.

Mongo, you have never once said who you would have gone out and gotten in free agency. I wanna hear these elite players we could have grabbed.
