The state of the franchise is a tough read. So much many contracts were moved off of the books this past year that it's a surprise we actually have a full roster.

I've worked with budgets comparable in size and I would love to be in the room as Poles talks about the free agent market. He has so many strategic choices to make, and it is hard to imagine what it would look like if we had even one other offensive player as talented as Fields.
I think the smart play is you go after maybe 1 - 2 top end, first run free agents, especially if Da'ron Payne comes available. Don't overpay older guys but seriously, go after 1-2 guys who are young and actually worth the money. Pick any position on the team, and its an upgrade.

For the rest of it, I would just focus entirely on 2nd and 3rd wave free agents. Get just average NFL starting grade players.

Even just doing that - hell, even if you forgot the first wave and ONLY focused on average nfl starters in 2nd and 3rd wave of free agency, the team would be SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded compared to the dumpster dive we got going on right now.

To me, that would be the smart play - focus on average starters in 2nd and 3rd wave of free agency, and work on getting your blue chip players in the draft. That to me would fit in with Poles' vision of sustained success, as now the Bears wouldn't be locked into long term, big money contracts and can then afford to replace those average NFL starters with their own draft picks as they go.

Plus, if Fields is elevating this pile of crap, give him an average NFL team and he's going to the playoffs and winning at least one game in the playoffs in this Parity league.

I'm not reading all that... but what if I told you that we already have a TOP 5 receiving core?!?!

Fields detractors also think we have a top 10 offensive line.....

Anyone with eyes knows that's a bunch of bullshit.

Its truly fucking hilarious - I've been fighting with people who had that take since game 3.

Only know we've had a couple of people walk it back, but what cracks me up is the ones that do pretend they never had that take in the first place.

Just man up, take your lumps like a man, own that you said it, and that after actually watching the games, you changed your mind.

Don't be the ***** that pretends you didn't have a trash take in the first place. Then again, this is CCS.....

I love the over reaction from Fields haters immediately after the game and their criticism is 'throw the ball quicker.' Until you see the All-22, you have no idea what Fields is looking at if you are watching the game live. They are just talking out of their asses looking for any reason to blame Fields despite Fields being the absolute only reason this Bears team is even watchable.

Yesterday, Fields wasn't even given enough time to complete is drop back before getting hit. It was an absolutely horrendous OL showing yesterday. Probably the worst we've seen this season. So yeah, just throw it quicker! What they fail to answer is throw is to fucking who?
Who hates Fields?

Name one poster.

The line had ONE stand out game this season, the Packer game from a few weeks ago. Wouldn't you fucking know it, Fields had a great day as a passer. Man, this game is really simple at the end of the day. Protect Fields and wow, he can actually pass, guys! As he put it yesterday, running is a "necessary evil".

Wrong on both counts.

I don't have an alias.

Come on. We're not stupid.

You can play literal name games, but everyone here has seen how you've talked about fields in the tone of your posts over a long period of time.

You didn't believe in him and had zero patience regarding allowing him time to develop.

You can spend it any which way you like and deny it all you want but everyone here saw it and knows it. You aren't hiding from it no matter how much you protest....

Would it have been better if Simien played and was only sacked twice but the offense only scored 10pts?

@remydat @MDB111™

Yes because at the end of the season the 2 teams with the least amount of sacks allowed that havent made playoffs based on wins qualify for the playoffs.

That's exactly right.

And I get that the detractors will run to Pro football focus or one of the stat sites to claim how good the offensive line is, but for those who actually watch the games, the easiest way to poke holes in those stats is that for them, the two games they had the Bears rated the absolute highest were also the two games where Sam mustapher looks like a video game glitch - he had to play where he blocked absolutely no one and ran to the sideline to the right, and the following game had the same exact play where he blocked it absolutely no one and ran into the sideline to the left. It was like a literal glitch in a video game. And people who actually played the game of football and know what they're looking at called it out like JT OSullivan.

When the people who actually played the game are disagreeing with the analytics math geeks when it comes to football I'm going to side with the people who played the game...

Poles went into this season on the fence about Fields and didn't give him weapons. I am sure he knows it is time to help Fields and I expect he will invest in weapons and protection in the offseason.
This is 100% percent it. Poles wanted to blow this whole shitshow up, quarterback too.. but figured if the kid could survive this year and somehow show improvement then they have something special. That's the only explanation for not surrounding him with real talent at receiver and offensive line.

I actually think he believed that the signing of Pringle and the trade for Harry would help. I am calling it now: Poles is not a good evaluator of wide-receiver talent (remember how pleasantly surprised he was before the season once he'd watched film on Darnell Mooney?) Every GM has positions that they're good at evaluating- Pace was good with cornerbacks and defensive linemen (no surprise as Pace played defensive lineman in college), and Poles and Cunningham are good at offensive line evaluation (again no surprise, that's the position they both played in college). I know it's a bit of an over-simplification, but it is what it is.

The one Knock I have on Fields and everyone knocks this play is Valus Jones Jr. Keep in mind that was Fields guy as said when they drafted him.

I don't mind Fields looking at day 3 talent and trying to find a steal or just a guy he likes, but lets have the scouts pick day one and day two this year...

Both Pringle and Harry being injured didn't help. Probably going to cost them their jobs at the end of the season.
