The Sweeney contract bummed me out when it happened and, in my eyes, he's the odd man out.

It really shouldn't. He's making bench outfielder money. I suppose i could see that being a sign of their intention to not spend but clearly they've added players like Bonifacio and Kalish when the time was right as other options

So, the cubs are now even on run differential for the year. Typically that indicates a .500 team. There's not enough games to make that sort of proclamation yet but it's a really encouraging sign. As I said in another topic, the cubs are competing. they were 2-5 before this game but 4 of those games were 1 run games and 4 were against a 94 win pirate team. Cubs may only end up at 70-75 wins but a lot of these games are at least enjoyable to watch.

Let's hope it continues for the Fans who expect progress in a reasonable time frame.

Bullpen could be evolving, as well. Rondon's stuff has definitely improved since the later portion of last season. Maybe he and Strop end up being our 8th/9th inning combination?

What's weird is the amount of people already ditching the team. I guess people just see 2-5 and think they are shit but I have seen the fact they were getting runners in scoring position as super encouraging. Games like tonight show you what happens when teams are able to get on base. Rizzo, Castro and Shark are all off to good starts which is something they need as well. I was already optimistic predicting 70-75 wins but based on what I've seen thus far I wouldn't be shocked if they were better than 75 wins because in theory they should get better in the 2nd half with player call ups.
