I don't think Lee is the answer, but the point is none of the guys are. May as well pick the one who leaves you with the most cap space left for more moves.

I can understand that line of thinking and JR probably would love that but Amare is capable of being a game changer offensively and comes closest to filling our need at pf.

LOL @ JR swipe. Obviously I mean we use the cap space, not just create it to save money. ;)

I do worry that the excuses for Amare sound a lot like the excuses for Eddy Curry. Now obviously I don't think Amare will eat his way out of the league. But I remember people saying that Curry not defending or rebounding didn't matter because we had Chandler. That he was such an offensive force we could ignore the fact he was a black hole who didn't like to pass. Obviously Amare isn't as extreme a case as Curry, but we were talking about paying Curry 10 million a year, we're talking about a deal averaging 18 million for Amare.

Right, but we took a step back after losing Curry. So while it turned out good in the long run for us, it showed that having that offensive big helped. I also think Amare is much better than Curry ever was here and Noah is much more consistant and better than Chandler. I just think that Amare gives us a guy who can be a game changer and really open up the offense. Rose and Amare are the basis of a deadly pick and roll. Rose and Lee don't scare me nearly as much.

I don't say Amare wont help, or that he isn't the best of the second tier guys, but if he can't get to the finals as #2 to Steve Nash, he can't get to the finals as #2 to Derrick Rose.

If we're going to build a team that needs to make more moves, I'd rather have the space to make them, which to me means no giving max deals this off season unless it's to a genuine superstar. I think that means we have to go for Lee, since he's likely the only guy who we can get and preserve enough space for a big follow up trade.

Phoenix would easily make the finals one of those years in the east. Not to mention, Deng, Kirk(can't believe I am saying it), Noah and Gibson is a better supporting cast and can actually play defense. Its a bit different. You also still have room to improve with Hinrich's soon to be expiring deal.

My only issue is that due to leverage alone, Amare would ask for the max in that situation. Phoenix would be more than willing to give it to him, but I don't believe he makes the Bulls good enough to win anything. They would be a gatekeeper team at best for a while, a team that is used to gauge whether other teams are ready for the next level. They would be top 4 in the conference, etc. But beating the Lakers? I seriously doubt it.

Hou, you'd essentially be trying to convert Kirk's soon to be expiring into another piece and hoping that Rose becomes a top 7 player. Its very hard to just acquire a championship level team. You normally have to go through that sucky, then playoff, then gatekeeper and then get another piece to put you over the top. You can't just jump that step.

Thinking about how far away we are, I guess the comparison is the Lakers were a 42 win team before they got Gasol. The Celtics were a 24 win team before they got Garnett and Allen. Maybe we don't need as much as I think.

Let´s see how good our predictions were.

I made the correct winner with the correct score in green (2 pts),
the correct winner with the wrong score in orange (1pt)
and the wrong winner in red (0pts).

If you picked the right team to win but they played against an other team count it normal like I did in the scond round of the Western Conference. If there was a series in which none of your predicted teams played count it red like I did in my Eastern Conference finals.

my predictions are before the / and the result is behind it.

Round 1:

East:

Cavs over Bulls 4-1 / 4-1
Celtics over Heat 4-3 / 4-1
Hawks over Bucks 4-0 / 4-3
Magic over Bobcats 4-1 / 4-0

West:

Lakers over Thunder 4-2 / 4-2
Nuggets over Jazz 4-3 / 2-4
Suns over Blazers 4-0 / 4-2
Spurs over Mavericks 4-3 / 4-2

Round 2:

East:

Cavs over Celtics 4-1 / 2-4
Hawks over Magic 4-3 / 0-4

West:

Lakers over Nuggets 4-1 / 4-0 but over Jazz
Suns over Spurs 4-2 / 4-0

Round 3:

Cavs over Hawks 4-3 / Celtics over Magic 4-2

Lakers over Suns 4-2 / 4-2

Finals:

Lakers over Cavs 4-3 / 4-3 but over Celtics

So I got:
4x green (8 pts)
7x orange (7pts)
4x red

That´s 15 pts

Anyone ok with the system? How many points do you have?
