Considering the trades that other teams have gotten, and considering that we still had a 4th rounder before the Handzus deal... I wouldn't have cared if it was anyone else.... Lombardi, hell even slow ass Steckel... I was personally hoping to get Cory Conacher....

I was hoping to keep up with teams like Pittsburgh as it seemed like most teams got virtually nothing in return. Instead of all the hoopla of the day, we get stuck with the booby prizes....

We've made a ***** thread about Handzus already and I'm not going to start one here. There's no point. And until I see results (and I dont mean seeing him getting game #5 as a Hawk under his belt...), nothing will win me over with him. If we wanted a slow faceoff guy, I'd go with Steckel at this point, but he went to Anaheim early on....

Forgive me, but its just bad juju at this point and theres just something about bringing him back that I don't like. Its telling me that Stan either had no options to begin with or no one respects him or want to deal with us for many different reasons. Its a concern of mine...

Either way, I just wanted someone else that would be considered a potential asset in years to come and not just a rental. I wanted our 2C problems fixed and quite possibly our D6 if we could.... They haven't been solved in three years and it would have been nice to try to get someone to help when most other teams improved.

It didn't happen and Stan stayed with his present team on the ice.. Its a cause of concern.

Dave Steckel is the best shutdown player in the NHL

he shut down Crosby for over a year

If it would have cost them Danault, TT, Leddy or Saad - would it have been worth it? Which one would you want moved?

With all the players that did move...who would have definitely helped the Hawks...at the cost of one of those 4 players?

There is zero doubt in my mind...that's what teams wanted. Probably Stalberg was asked as well (for Clowe at least). So pick which one of those would 100% guaranteed a cup win for one of the players moved.

And they didn't make any moves in 2010....was it a concern then?

Rex...+1 on that Steckel line.

Well you know what the Islanders wanted for Streit, SAAD.

Good for Stan for not fucking things up, for not only now, but in the next couple of years. Unless a Roster player was moved, IE Frolik, Stalberg where the **** was anyone going to play in the top when Sharp and Hossa returned?

Other than getting a legit Center which as I checked, other than Roy, were NOT dealt by anyone..

IE Vermette, Ott, Neilson.... ECT ECT..

And for the Stupid Pens comment they can add all they want up front, but the last two games show they are weak at D and questionable in net.

Add to that the CHEMISTRY or EGO they added to that locker room and we'll see what they do in the playoffs. I wanted to keep up with the Penguins, WHAT? Yea I like adding two former Captains to an already ego filled locker room.

I love when people make declarations either way about what it would have cost the Hawks to improve. Nobody except the Blackhawks knows what other teams were asking for in trades. How many guys like Leddy, Saad, Danault, or TT went the other way in trades? I count one, and it was for Pominville. If the asking price for ANY players other than Handzus was one of those four, then obviously nobody wants to seriously deal with Stan.

I could just as easily say the asking price was Olsen, Beach, or Clendening and draft picks. Prove me wrong.

I would have been fine with no moves, as I think this team, even without any additions, is just as capable of winning the cup as the other powerhouse teams in the NHL. As it is, I think the Handzus move was a waste of a draft pick.

So...Beach, Olsen, JHayes...who everyone here says "sucks"....was what GM's wanted for Clowe, Roy, Jagr

Not sure why Stan or any GM with the best record in the NHL should want to make a big trade off his roster to please fans just to get a "name" player - when there wasn't much traded that would have helped.

With as much as they like to be in the spotlight for looking like geniuses I'm surprised more 'almost' amazing trades haven't been leaked...

Well you know for a fact the Islanders were asking for Saad, it was reported all over the place by the guys who would know.

So I guess that kind of proves you wrong. If Stan had dealt Saad for Striet he'd have been the laughing stock or the league. Even for Neilson.

DId you miss the part where I said I would have been fine with no moves?

What SURE FIRE prospects or young NHL talent was moved for guys that would have helped? Serious question. What players were moved who are on the same level as the four guys you mentioned?

Which is why he's still an Islander.

Other than Roy what Centers were moved. And no I don't count Zus, in that need, he's not a 2nd line Center.

I can undertand he frustration of not getting a legit #2C, but it looked like the market was weak for them so it's not like Bowman could conjure up one from the depth of his asscrack without having to give up someone like Saad.

But how is #6D weak? Rosie and Leddy have been nothing if not consistant this entire year. If there's any weakness on D, it's the decision making of #'s 2, 7, 4, and 27 that have been weak recently.

I think Oduya has been the weak link as of late. But, that doesn't mean there isn't depth at D with Montedor playing in Rockford if needed. I don't find the #1 team in the NHL at GA's to be weak. I never got that. Other than lacking some physicality I didn't agree with the "experts" saying we need to add on the back end.

Penguins added Murray for physicality and I think he was on the ice for three of the goals they allowed last night.

Especially with the cap going down as well. It didn't seem like any contracts were moved where a player is either an upcoming UFA or 1yr left (Pominville, Bouwmeester)

This summer is going to be a bit crazy I think. With teams needing cap space, the compliance buyouts....there may be some crazy names out there available as a 2C if needed

Exactly. The price was too high for that calibur of a Center obviously. Which is why Vermette, Ott, Neilson, Streit, are all still on those teams not being dealt.

Saad was the example. I don't even think I'd have traded Mcneil for any of those, risking the future for MAYBE something tangible now.

Considering that right now Oduya appears to be the #6 defenseman, I think the Hawks are fine. Leddy has improved quite a bit, especially defensively. Roszival has been better than expected. Hammer is back to 2010 form. Seabrook and Keith are....Seabrook and Keith.

I actually really like the defensive pairings over the last couple games.

Which, again, is why I would have been fine with absolutely no moves.

so Zus brings you a guy who can win face off when need be, and play on the 4th line and PK.

Hawks are in pretty good shape IMO. Everyone keeps talking about the Pens... Man Shepero jumbled that locker room big time with some HUGE egos. Good luck with that.

I agree with you RK--I was just commenting about the errant high-risk breakout plays that aren't going our way. The skill of our guys is not really in question; just plays like the turnover that led to the 2 goal against in the recent Nashville game was like, "aww, come on Keith, you're better than that--what were you thinking?!"

*addendum* I agree--we are in pretty good shape. we just need to make sure the killer instict is cultivated for the playoffs and that everyone is ready to tear through anyone like they are paper sacks filled with turkey gibblets and red-tinted Karo™ syrup.

I don't think egos are an issue. All those guys are veterans. They've all played internationally, right? I think the bigger issue is....they still have a shit goalie, and shit defense.

I disagree on the chemistry of a locker room 100%.

And agree their d and Fleury are just hot and cold. Rangers blasted them last night after losing to the shitty Sabres the night before. WIth or Without Crosby giving up 6 goals has nothing to do with him since he doesn't play goal.
